Again. I'm not understanding how an individual can be adamantly pro-life and anti-assisted suicide, while still HAPPILY justifying torture and the death penalty.

Because the first two deal with an innocent life, while the second two deal with punishing evil.

Leftists really do have a weird disconnect when it comes to concepts like personal responsibility and good vs evil...

BTW articles trying to smear someone like Gorsuch make me glad we have someone like the orange man to call out the leftist #FakeNews.

The majority of people disagree with the death penalty bc the system is flawed and innocent people are murdered by the state. Are we good or evil when innocent people are murdered?

As for torture.....are we good or evil when we torture someone.

That is a fair criticism of the system, but my point is that being pro-life and pro-death penalty isn't hypocritical if your position is based on valuing life based on innocence.

Also I would imagine present-day innocent executions are almost non-existent.

I'm fine with waterboarding... as long as there is some sort of due process leading up to it

There are plenty of wrongful convictions and executions. You are delusional if you think that our justice system actually works. It works better for people that have money to hire private attorneys, but even then it still fails to get justice 100% of the time.

Waterboarding is nothing. I think it's laughable when people virtue-signal and try and suggest waterboarding is immoral from their cozy existence that is only allowed because people do/have done far worse than waterboarding.

I guess it has something to do with the leftist/Islam love affair.

The sanctity of life for innocent US citizens, yes. You're conflating the life of an innocent US Citizen with the life of a terrorist planning to kill as many US Citizens as possible. Anyone with common sense can differentiate between the two and see that the values are consistent.

I think that is what triggers leftists the most at a subconscious level... the fact that GOP incompetency aside, all conservative principals are rock solid across every issue... whereas the regressive agenda of "equality of outcome" is Marxism in disguise and it doesn't have a leg to stand on.

So if a rapist (non-innocent) comes down with terminal cancer he should be able to go to his doctor and get assisted suicide, but my grandmother slowly dieing from dementia, who expressly wrote in her will the conditions of her assisted suicide, shouldn't be allowed because the Sanctity of Life (TM)?

Equality of opportunity > Equality of outcome

Sorry leftists, the right wins every time on that foundation. The only way you can win is if you import enough poor, high birth rate, 3rd world peasants to push for socialism... but that's why we are building a yuge wall.

So you force Republicans to go nuclear, they still get Gorsuch the seat and then it's easier for them to confirm other potential nominations down the line. I honestly don't know what the net-gain here is for Dems to filibuster.

It's a bet they will make a MAJOR gains in 2018 and that Trump is a one-term president.

The latter is almost a certainty (one way or another) the former is a pipe dream.

If you're not going to use the filibuster because you're afraid of the majority party getting rid of it, then why have it in the first place? May as well use it and force them to play that hand.

To me the reason to not filibuster is because it seems highly likely they're going to get another pick during this term. If you still have the filibuster as an option they may not want to go nuclear because they know they're losing in the next election, so they would possibly nominate someone more centrist.

If they go nuclear now they would have no reason at all not to nominate whoever the hell they want next time

Using a procedural vote to dispose of the filibuster. This pretty much makes McConnell the worst senate leader of all time, right?

[Edited on April 6, 2017 at 1:07 PM. Reason : Gorsuch goes through his career with an asterisk next to his name right?]
