So, I am thinking about selling my 2003 Honda S2000 since the wife is pregnant and will need a new car. I am hoping someone can help me out with determining what a good price would be. I checked KBB, but i have rarely ever found that to be accurate. Could not find any 2003 around (within 100miles) to compare.

Details:
2003 Honda S2000
~90K miles
Blue exterior with blue interior
Brand new rear tires and 1 year old front tires
2nd owner, bought back in 2006 with approx 30K miles
always used Mobil 1 Synthetic Oil and Honda OEM filter
few small paint chips but no dents
replaced master clutch cylinder last year and timing belt tension about 2 years ago
runs and drives great

I'd guestimate around $11k. Good luck at that price point. More realistic might be a grand or two less. But I don't know the market for these cars, but that would be my ballpark guess.

I've noticed that blue/blue don't tend to resell as well, either.

By the way, I'm a buyer at an attractive enough price. I've owned 2 of them; a third wouldn't be out of the question.

Suzuka Blue, eh?

If your car is in "excellent" condition $15,000 isn't out of the question. There are also enthusiasts out there that prefer the AP1 to the AP2 model.

If I were you I would ask the good folks over at http://www.s2ki.com. That would be the best place to ask.

its NOT Carolina blue. Carolina blue is not metallic, and is more of a powder or pastel blue.

Its early 90's light blue metallic, and it honestly is one of my favorite car colors.

Hell, I'll go to $8k. I didn't like the AP2 I drove, but the internets tell me there is a 0.01% chance I'll really appreciate an AP1.

For a 10 year old car? Seems fairly good given that you could buy that car under MSRP for almost it's entire production run.

Honestly I think the resale value of the S2000 (and almost all sports cars actually) is up slightly over the last year or so. The KBB private seller value of my car is just over $22,000. And I bought the car 3 1/2 years ago, with 45,000 fewer miles, for less than that

I appreciate all of the feedback and everyone's opinions!

I am feeling that $13ish K would be a good pricing point, as if I can't get that I may just keep it as a third car. As I said before, there are a few small chips in the paint from rocks or what not and the leather seats are starting to show some wear. However, the rest of the car is in excellent shape I think. It does burn a small (maybe about a quart every 5K miles) amount of oil, but that seems to be pretty common/standard for these.

1 quart every 5k seems like a lot of oil usage to me. I can see blue on blue being worth a lot less than other colors but I thought these cars in good shape were still worth a lot...

I was thinking the other day, Honda could make a really basic convertible today and sell it for $25k pretty easily. People like the idea of a reliable, simple convertible.

That's normal. All the AP1s at least (no idea on AP2) consume a good bit of oil.The owner's manual lists how much is considered within spec. I want to say 1 quart per 1,000 miles is acceptable per the manual, but don't quote me on it. 1 quart per 3,000-5,000 seemed to be the norm iirc.

In other words...Check it often and keep it full.

Errr...I meant to say that it's about to blow up and you should sell it dirt cheap to the next person who makes you an offer.

Yep, I think so, too. I bought my 2nd AP1 (the stock one) for $7700 (sold it 1.5+ years later for $8500). I haven't seen any that cheap lately that weren't AFU.

yes, blue/blue sells for a lower price. demand for them just isn't there (i don't care for them, myself, and most other people apparently don't--but every man has his price).


They do routinely burn a lot of oil. It's largely a function of how much time they spend in VTEC--mine easily consumed a quart every 5k miles, maybe even a little more sometimes. Supposedly, they have an exceptionally voracious appetite for Mobil 1 (which is what I used), but they burn oil, period, if you run them in VTEC.

AP1s are known somewhat for burning a bit of oil. It's perfectly normal though. AP2s consume less. I do oil changes bi-annually and rarely have to add more than a quart during those periods. And after my track events my oil level doesn't change, or the change is minimal to the point I can't tell.

It's a good idea, but if you spend a fair amount of time on the S2000 forums you'll see that the general opinion is that Honda isn't very good at making a convertible. They did an outstanding job making a solid chassis, but the convertible top itself...leaves a lot to be desired.

Actually I'd be down once my q45 brakes go on this weekend . I had little problem keeping up with the s2k group at VIR when we were actually on it. The only thing that let go was my brakes

Still in the process of trying to find time to wash it so I can list it for sale. Recently discovered that my wife is actually the 4th owner (someone owned it for about 200 miles), but my wife has owned this vehicle since 2006 and only selling to buy a bigger car for the baby. Runs and Drives great with only the timing belt tensioner and master clutch cylinder being replaced during the 6 years she has owned it.

Hoping to get it listed this weekend for $13,500.

Updated Details:
89,XXX miles
Suzuka Blue with Blue Interior
Seats show some wear, but normal for 90K miles.
Brand new Continental ExtremeContact DWS on rear, 1 year old DWS's on front.
Have manual and just passed inspection in May with no issues
Really fun car to drive and perfect for summer!
