So is this a prequel? I thought Green Goblin already died in the last one.

I think this is another reboot, so the old Green Goblin doesn't matter.

they kept showing a lot of oscorp references, so i think a goblin appearance can be expected at some point

^^ Lizard was probably the villain I remember the most. I remember him laying some good beatdowns on Spiderman.

^ I don't think you can assume that. I think they want to distance themselves from the Tobey Maguire series...so I think you can expect them NOT to bring in the goblin. The Lizard will suffice for Oscorp (scientific accident creates mutant villain).

they'll probably allude to Venom since they seem to be going off Ultimate Spiderman a bit

I wish they called it something other than the "Amazing" Spiderman if they are changing the origin. There are plenty of other Spiderman lines, and I'm sure the origins aren't exactly the same for all of them.

Have any Spidey movies ever shown the webshooters?

I'm glad that they are going to have costumed Spidey be more of a smartass, that was one of the elements that I missed in the first trilogy. However, it looks like 3D will ruin another possibly good movie. Too much stuff if flying into the screen and the CGI is overused and looks out of place/cheap.

At least they fixed the part about Peter actually making his webslingers, instead of him being able to magically produce that shit from his wrists. That always bugged me in the originals.

^In the comics he eventually develops the ability to do the webbing without webshooters, so that gives them an out.

After seeing the Avenger, I hope they had someone paying attention and keeping an eye out how Wheddon was doing his material and how Nolan has successfully handled Batman.

I want to enjoy this movie/reboot/story line.

Just one question. How will they ignore the MJ factor?

She's been there since the first day. They later revealed that she saw Peter as Spider-man leaving the house the day he went and caught Uncle Ben's killer, but that always seemed like a cop-out to me.

i've never been a big Spiderman fan, and wasn't really interested in the reboot. But after seeing the full IMAX trailer before Prometheus i've changed my tune. Will definitely be seeing this one i think.

"in the comics" is a joke because they continuously retcon shit and create alternative universes and realities. Have there been any Marvel characters with a contiguous storyline?

Loved it. I was waiting the whole time for Gwen to die, but I guess they want to get some mileage out off Emma Stone.

better than Raimi, still some moments that were so cheesy I groaned. Most unrealistic thing in the whole movie is that a high school used Bing as his search engine.

i saw it not in 3d, and didn't notice anything really stupid in regards to the throwing things into the screen except the closing shot.

Ended up catching a matinee (coincidentally in the exact same cinema/auditorium that I saw the 2002 Spider-Man in). I really liked it. Three things I didn't like though:

1) No James Jonah Jameson. His propaganda about Spider-Man is one of my favorite parts of the series.
2) No Harry Osborn. He's supposed to be Peter Parker's best friend, I would have thought his character would have at least made an appearance.
3) Uncle Ben's death was way too similar to the way he died in the 2002 movie. He might as well have said "I missed the part where that's my problem" instead of "Not my policy."

^ I would guess they will bring J. Jonah Jameson in when he goes to work at the Daily Bugle. I didn't stay for the post credits scene but apparently it hinted at Harry Osborn being in the next one. I think they were going for the Batman template of rebooting and then bringing in the main villain in the second movie.

Spoiler

Apparently everyone thought it was Norman Osborn at the end. Seemed pretty obvious it was electro. Theories?

Spoiler

if they're going to kill off Gwen then they'll have to bring in Norman at some point. They'll either do it in the next film and introduce MJ, or they may wait until the last film and not introduce her at all. In my opinion it's too early to introduce him.
Regarding the end scene, though, my immediate thought was electro, then mysterio with the way he came in and out without notice from the guards....who knows They could be building up the Oscorp scientist thing and have goblin in the final film with the sinister six.

I thought this was a better movie than the Sam Raimi spiderman. However, it felt less Spidermaney than the Raimi ones. Peter was too much of just a loner and not enough of a nerd (despite being obviously scientifically brilliant). There was also a lack of witty banter during the fights. Also, the Lizard not having a snout really changed the look of the character. Not sure I liked that change from the comics. Still, overall a fun and enjoyable version of spidey on the big screen.

Totally agreed on the Lizard not having a snout. I am a little rusty on my Spider-Man lore, but I thought the Lizard wasn't sentient originally too, right? I thought that Curt Connors was actually a good guy that just couldn't control himself in Lizard form?

As a side note, here is a picture of the mask used for the Lizard next to a mask used for a Goomba in the 1993 Super Mario Bros. movie:
