So I have a truck that I had not needed to run for a couple months. I fired it up and all and it runs okay, just have not been on the road with it. I did not renew the sticker on the plate month before like I should have until tonight. I got it inspected previously but just didn't do the DMV website part. If the month/date displayed is now past due (3/12) but I am just waiting on the new 2013 sticker am I alright to ride with? If I get pulled will an officer be able to see that I have paid my renewal tax on it and just waiting on the sticker or should I not chance it? 5/11/2012 8:02:08 PM |

if you do get a ticket for it all you'll have to do is show up and show your registration and you'll be off the hook. still an inconvenience. 5/11/2012 9:52:36 PM |

*shrug* I went almost two years once
And on a completely unrelated note, I let the insurance lapse on a vehicle I have that just sits and I guess the DMV gave up on threatening to come take their tags back because they're still there

letting your insurance lapse is much worse than not renewing your plate. 5/12/2012 12:06:01 AM |

^Yea I know that is a big no no. You gotta surrender the tags for 30 or 60 days or some such shit. I never let this one lapse on insurance or anything. I got it inspected and then it gave me some trouble, so I parked it until I had time to take a look at the problem. When I went to try and fix it, the problem seems to have cleared itself up (guessing maybe some water in my gas) so I'm renewed and legit. 5/12/2012 7:07:59 AM |

I forgot to put the sticker on last time I got it in the mail, and I got stopped at a DWI checkpoint last weekend. I had no idea the sticker wasn't on, and the cop detained me for like 5 minutes while he was running my plates. He came back up to the car and gave me back my license and told me to make sure I put the sticker on and let me go. So I suppose as long as you get a cop that isn't a dick, they will be able to tell you are current. 5/12/2012 11:07:34 PM |

if i maintain my insurance but just don't update my tag/inspection and let it lapse past the due date, will that be a problem? i have a car that is just sitting in the garage that needs some fixing done but i don't have the budget for it right now 5/14/2012 12:09:33 PM |

I don't know about issues with the taxes part, but other then that I think you are fine. When I redid mine after missing it for a month or two there was no penalty or anything. So I do not know if that would be a problem if it went for 6 months or a year. The biggest issue would be when try to drive it to the shop to get it worked on and inspected. You can either get it towed or get a 10 day permit to drive it to a shop. 5/14/2012 10:07:15 PM |
