i haven't gotten to play it. if its anything like HoN was then the learning curve is ridiculous and the community is less forgiving than league of legends

I was about to post a topic on this.

I see that the tutorial section is not active?

You can set up your own game with nothing but bots but im not clear on the mechanics.

Its still in beta, I think the development team exists of the guy who made dota 1, working basically for free and maybe 2 or 3 others.

try playing skeleton king (i think) basically one of his passives is an infinity edge and his ult is a guardian angel- so if you play coop vs ai you won't feed at least lol. This game isn't necessarily harder, but it is completely unforgiving. If you get stunned/snared you will die. Its like LoL without flash or ghost. Much more defensive, way more reliant on team fights. I would like to get good at this game, but most of the guides say "buckle in you'll be playing for 6-9 months before people don't yell at you"

however now i find myself hating end game LoL when i don't have a courier.

I think i'm finally progressing from terrible to just really bad after 34 hours of play time

as a noob my favorites are Sand King, Chaos Knight, Skeleton King, Windrunner

there's tournys and league matches almost every day .... since the dota community isnt predominantly NA they come on in the middle of the day however.... there's almost always a league match of some sort on twitch between noon and 6pm est.

tobiwan sheever xyclops etc. always streaming matches.

plus the dota commentators will just randomly join smaller tourny matches and commentate them for shits and giggles sometimes because of dota's vastly superior spectate client

The main flaw in dota 2 is that a new player is instantly expected to play a game with like 90 champions all freely available.

they expect you to play a whole lot and play a whole lot of champions. it's not a flaw. it just takes longer. that's precisely why every guide you read about dota has the aforementioned "buckle up" statement.

you dont' have to random champs. you just watch the dotacinema guides and figure out what you like

they're making a new tutorial video that's "quest-like" where you go through a game station by station and the dota people teach you what you need to do and not do. it's in the works.

the unforgivingness is the biggest problem for new players....

in lol there's flash, ghost, etc. none of the skills hit tremendously hard, especially early game.

in dota that's entirely not the case. well over half the abilities in dota just couldn't exist in League.

he was right. if you get stunned or caught in dota, you're dead.

it's just a different game style.

just being dense for the fun of it ?

ironically yes, taking a screenshot during a LCS match of the most popular competitive online game in the world at the moment during which no dota tourny matches are being played is surely equivalent.

(as an aside, I love how man v game makes some random ass game spike over 20k every time it comes on lol ... farming simulator wtf!?)

if you were to take that same screenshot during a raidcall tourny game or some other match in the middle of the day like I said (esp one with team liquid, team eg, navi or VP) Dota 2 would have 50-60k viewers and league would have 30-40k.

there's no question that more people watch league, but to somehow pretend the 200k + concurrent viewers lol pulls for the LCS broadcasts is the norm and not the exception is just being a fuckwit.

17k viewers is still a fuck ton in the internet game world. dendi, demon, synderen all pull well over 10k viewers regularly.

it's not dead, it's just infinitely more difficult for the masses to play because it's still in "closed" beta, you still need an invite, and que times even for the shittiest of players is still well over 5-7minutes.

For what its worth, that screnshot was taken on a random day (before LCS started) and its from own3d where most dota streams are and the least league streams are.

Voyboy by himself regularly pulls 30k + viewers. I think when I woke up sunday morning at like 8am he was at 47k. Right now at 4am Dyrus has 23k viewers. There is a pretty cool League stream browser chrome app.

Also they have been giving out invites like crazy over the last 2 months. Its like they are begging people to play...

Here are the things I wish League had.

1) Secret shop
2) Destructible terrain
3) Donkey
4) Denying

Here are the things I wish Dota had

1) Fun gameplay
2) Any sort of NA eDesportes scene at all.

Also, is turn rate really needed? its 2013
