Hey all. You added me a while back when I first got MC, and now I am hosting my own very small server. I am trying to add some mods to it, and I have having a problem with the Balkon's weapon mod. In fact, I am having trouble adding any mod that will work in the multiplayer realm.
So, my question is: does anyone have knowledge of adding mods to MC that will work in multiplayer? I really need some help adding this mod, as I think it will add a lot to my friends' experience in my server.
Any help would be appreciated. Here is the website to the mod: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/211517-125-balkons-weaponmod-v86/#install
I attempted to follow the instructions to the letter, but apparently, there is more to it than just throwing it in the folder...as it says in the instructions. I am using the "minecraft_server.jar" as opposed to using .exe, as I originally did.

I'm not using bukkit. But are you suggesting that is the best way to go? My only concern is that not all mods are bukkit friendly (compatible).
Any comments? Preferably ones using sentences?

That mod contains it's own server jar.

Mods in minecraft generally dont do well in SMP. I tried out a few for the TWW server and they all had serious issues (memory leaks, crashes, outdated server versions) and very few of the mods are maintained in any way you can move forward with.

Add to that, most mods only work exclusively (ie you can't use bukkit + arbitrary mod) and it's almost pointless to even try in SMP. The vanilla minecraft server is so lacking in the most basic administrative functionality, it's not even worth running a server on it.

Spout is likely to be the eventual solution to this problem. But it's not there yet.

I gotcha. Well, since I posted this, and subsequently forgot about the post, I have learned a bit more about the modding process. I started using the .jar, and I was successful in getting the Mo Creatures mod installed. It is still very glitchy, but I have seen how difficult it is to do some of this stuff. Thanks for the responses guys.
