i like using frozen watermelon chunks instead of ice cubes
you could add stevia/honey/agave/sugar for sweetness if the fruit isn't sweet enough for you 6/11/2012 9:15:15 PM |

Bananas are cheap & go brown quickly. So what I do is buy a bunch of bananas, eat them as normal (in cereal, snack whatever) & when they get to the point at which I won't eat them if they get any more ripe, I peel them & stick them in a ziplock in the freezer. I use the frozen bananas in smoothies in place of ice.
Also frozen blueberries, cherries etc are pretty cheap & great in smoothies
Finally, if you're trying to get some nutrition up in there, toss a handful or two of spinach in your smoothie. You'll hardly taste it but it will turn it a greenish brown color. 6/11/2012 9:33:13 PM |

^^^ I don't recommend juicing for you
I drink some suspect colored juices
But my body loves me for it, and my hair & my skin & my nails
I juiced a beet today, glorious (among other fruits & veggies) 6/11/2012 9:55:17 PM |

i add protein powder to mine and it becomes unbearably sweet.
I also have blue berries and black cherries in it for anti-oxidants. 6/12/2012 8:58:58 AM |

^^^ It's like Mountain Dew killing sperm. It only does that if you drink like 5 gallons of it a day. I drink half a cup and I don't make the smoothie every day. Plus, if it really freaks you out just substitute milk. 6/12/2012 9:35:27 AM |

Also, just learned this off the internets:
Quote : | "There is no scientific evidence showing that soy affects sexual development in humans. Contrary to many misleading published accounts, soymilk does not contain the hormone estrogen. Soy does contain isoflavones, also known as phytoestrogens or “plant estrogens.” While the chemical structure of isoflavones is similar to estrogen, the two function very differently in the body. Isoflavones have been studied for a number of beneficial effects, including a potential role in supporting heart and bone health, minimizing menopausal symptoms, and reducing the risk of some forms of cancer." |
http://www.soynutrition.com/?gclid=CKD116LqyLACFWLktgodzSEaXg
And also here is a guy who was affected by soymilk:
Quote : | "Dr. Lewi suddenly felt his excitement building. He asked Price how much soy milk, on average, he drank each day.
"He told me, 'Probably about 3 quarts,' " recalls Dr. Lewi about the moment that changed everything. " |
http://www.menshealth.com/nutrition/soys-negative-effects
Quote : | "The soy isoflavone genistein and daidzein are similar to 17 beta-estradiols, but are 100,000 times weaker in estrogenic activity and are therefore weak estrogens. Although these isoflavones are weak estrogens, people who eat a lot of it can have their blood level of isoflavones as mush as 10,000 times higher than those who do not consume soy. Over time, high concentrations of isoflavones in the body can have a significant cumulative estrogenic and toxic effect, especially when they are exposed to organs that have sensitive estrogen receptors sites such as the breast, uterus, and thyroid. yes, very tasty. I never use ice with my smoothies either; I just always freeze all the fruit beforehand.
Also, frozen avocados are awesome in smoothies with just about any fruit. 6/12/2012 9:58:50 AM |
