More accomplished sportsman more like it. I'm pretty sure no NASCAR drivers can compete with pro basketball or football athletes.

probably the first time in the history of the world that a North Carolina entity isn't claiming Michael Jordan as a North Carolina native

I attended MJ's elementary and high school, and I forgot (or didn't know) he wasn't born there.

Not if I have anything to do with it.

TWW should stroll em all and skew JR to win the whole thing.

Sorry, but there's no way Sonny Jurgensen vs. Sugar Ray Leonard should be a round 1 matchup.

Better at drugs and better at his sport than Mario will ever be. We're talking about top 25 player of all-time potential.

By your logic Leon Johnson should be crushing Burleson. He is certainly more athletic.

Curious to see what the participants of your bracket would be. All track and field members?

^
You hate him, so I can't take you seriously. He may be the best player in baseball over the past 3 years, so yes there is that potential.

I don't hate him, I just took picking on ctnznza1 too far. He's 31, his numbers are going to fall off to mortal levels in a couple years. Top-100, maybe. top-25, impossible.

[Edited on June 12, 2012 at 2:58 PM. Reason : Three years isn't shit. Body of work. He got clean too late.]

Body of work

He's got a long resume

He's not the 6th best hitter in 2012

I know that.

But c'mon. Why even make a list like that. He's not going to get 5 HOF votes.

But you did say flawed. So whatever.

Sure I do. Rolen has the 6th best body of work of all active hitters? Ok,fine. Just not buying its relevance in the big picture.

Anyway..................... Hamilton > Mario. Back on topic. Mario got a raw deal in the first round.

It's certainly relevant. You've got 2500ish votes by dudes who register somewhere on the baseball nerd spectrum just by the fact that they've visited b-r.com covering 2000ish hitters and pitchers. Rolen might not have the unequivocal 6th best HOF case among active hitters (he has a better case on 6/12/12 than Josh Hamilton), but he's near the top.

Thanks, I needed a good laugh this morning.

Well technically, you're right. He used to have that potential. In high school. Not anymore.

But he is not on the list of the greatest baseball players of all time. And unless he can continue doing what he's done the last couple years for 5+ more, he won't be in the hall of fame. (I don't see that happening.)

Roman is losing to Dale
Thompson is kicking Hamilton's ass
Burleson is squeaking by Gaylord Perry
Torry Holt is stomping Dennsis Bird
Catfish hunter is squashing Julius Peppers
Enos Slaughter is beating Ted Brown

Never understood these sorts of arguments. Want to determine best athlete for guys from various sports? Put them in a decathlon of sorts and see who does best.

I'm pretty sure Catfish Hunter wouldn't beat Julius Peppers that way (especially since he's dead)

Dale going against Gabriel would be interesting too.
