Ah, my favorite offseason to follow each year. Lots of big names, some of whom may be washed up and lots of unknown budding stars who may be big steals this offseason.

First news of the offseason is ramon sessions to opt out. Quite a panic for the lakers I'm sure since they have no other option than Steve Blake, they are way over the cap already , and they gave up first rounders for him.

I think sessions knows he has them over a barrel and that he has the leverage to lock up a big multi year deal from them. The lakers could look to move gasol so they can afford to pay him since they already have mcroberts in place to start at PF. Or who
knows maybe the lakers just eat the tax and pay all of them.

Sessions was spectacular for the lakers in the regular season but a big disappointment in the playoffs.

Everyone has that realization at some point. My comp will always be Lebron, since we're a month apart. Once you get over the fact that he's a foot taller and and 80 pounds bigger than you, it stings a little less.

Potential 2012 lottery picks that I think will be busts:
Sullinger
Robinson
Barnes
Rivers
Leonard
Marshall
Drummond

Drummond and Rivers are guaranteed busts. Drummond was terrible in college and Rivers wasn't very good. Barnes will probably be a bust too, but he'll score a few points on bad teams so some people might not recognize that he stinks.

Hilarious write-up on Rivers and Barnes here:

Quote :
"
I haven’t seen that much red since, well since last time I argued that Austin Rivers is a bad draft prospect. This guy can’t even score points at an above average rate, what exactly does he bring to the table? His dad was good? Chad Ford sums it up (unintentionally) hilariously well:

Extremely confident
Good shooter with deep range
Sick crossover move, very quick
Nice floater
Skilled ball handler
Has a killer instinct on the floor

Is that list serious? He’s extremely confident? Tupac was extremely confident, but I didn’t want him on my basketball team. He has a “sick” crossover move? That’s analysis? Hot Sauce had a sick crossover move, but I didn’t want him on my NBA basketball team. Rivers can’t be that great of a shooter or he’d have better shooting percentages. He has a nice floater? Great. So why doesn’t he shoot a higher percentage or score more? He has a killer instinct. The list sells itself. If you like watching shows like Ghost Hunters or Finding Bigfoot, take Austin Rivers in the lottery. I’ll stick with guys who are objectively good."

Quote :
"What’s worse than a terrible lottery pick from Duke? A terrible top 5 pick from UNC! Barnes isn’t quite as bad as *shutter* Rivers or Teague, but he’s expected to go top 5 – a pick that teams will intentionally destroy their seasons to get.

Barnes is everything a GM wants – he has great size, he is one of the most athletic guys in the draft, and he can score from anywhere (or at least that’s what they say) – except for one thing: he isn’t good.

(compares Barnes lackluster stats to the other top 100 SF)

Barnes is the epitome of the basketball player that fools the masses with everyone’s favorite stat. Yeah, he scores a lot of points. But it’s only because he shoots so much. His shooting percentages are poor. So in reality, he’s not a good scorer. He’s good at taking a lot of shots. But anyone can do that. And when you look deeper into his numbers, you see he’s not particularly good at anything. Obviously, that’s not what you dismantled your team for."

you know whats funnier than declaring two 19-year olds as definite busts?

sports economists are so credible!

this is where face gets all his opinions people, the place that says Harden (2-10 from the field each of the last 2 games) is better than a top-3 player in the NBA, Kevin Durant

so every time you suck off face, remember that he buys into shit like this too

^^ you're right, you can't.

Webber is an all-time great basketball player and Iverson was an all-time great shoe salesman.

Iverson couldn't hold Webber's jock as a basketball player, and I'm not sure C-Webb even had his own shoes to sell.

Comparing the two as basketball players would be like comparing Paul Pierce to John Salmons.

Don't get me wrong I loved Iverson as a kid and even argued against all reason that he was a great basketball player at one time. But if you look at his numbers objectively as an adult, they don't hold up. He is an all-time deceptive player. He was slightly above average at his peak. Terrible shooting and high turnovers really offset his insane steal rate.

Well the first move of the offseason has been made. Not very classy Pat Riley.

In the press conference he just announced Miami will be amnestying Mike Miller.

I understand why they're doing it, but after the guy hits 7 threes in the close-out game, have a little respect Riley

haha no, there's just speculation they will to avoid some tax.

I don't think they will. They're so old they need all the bodies they can get. Just depends on the owner's bottom line, obviously wouldn't be a basketball decision since they'd still be well over the cap.

Roy was a max type player last season and was solid the year before after two bad years to start his career.
Plus he's a restricted free agent so they had to make a big offer to have any chance.

I think its a solid move by Portland, he's young. I expect Indiana to match though.

Lot of news out there and early on every team appears to be making wise choices.

Garnett deal might not look great in three years and Wallace for 4 and 40 is certainly risky at his age though.

For all the crap Lebron got for "The Decision".....Dwight Howard has to be 100X worse.

"Howard wants to land in Brooklyn and, after realizing that a trade to the Nets was unlikely, he contacted the National Basketball Players Association to explore his legal options against the Magic. He claims that members of the organization “blackmailed” him and threatened him into opting in to the final year of his contract, but sources close to the situation say there isn’t much evidence to support Howard’s claims. Howard personally contacted the union last week, asking if there was any way they could facilitate a trade to Brooklyn or nullify his opt-in to make him an unrestricted free agent this summer. It’s unlikely that the union will take legal action on behalf of Howard, according to sources close to the situation."

Wow the nets are in full panic mode. They are offering deron in the $100m range and now are willing to trade for Joe Johnson and his $90m deal. Ewwwwww.

Love Houstons deal with asik. It's 3 years, $25 million which is a good value and it pays $5,$5 then $15 the third year haha

Deron had a really tough year obviously. He hasn't been healthy and at this point I'd rather spend the money on a guy you know is good than a big risk. Joe Johnson hasn't been productive for a few years. If you spend $190m on a backcourt you better end up with like Rondo and Harden, not two has beens

JJ officially moved to NJ for a bunch of garbage (still somehow a good deal for Atlanta)

It's also official, there's no such thing as a contract that's too bad to trade

Wallace, Williams, Howard, & JJ enough to make any noise in the East?
