Anyone checked this out? I picked it up a few days ago, and if you're into apocalyptic zombie survival games, it's excellent! It's pretty challenging, but if you're interested, let me know and we can team up on a server and do our best to survive the zombies and the humans.

You have to have ArmAII and the expansion pack Operation Arrowhead in order to run DayZ (free mod ftw!), and the ArmaII package is sitting at about $30 on steam right now - it's expected to go on sale for the summer though hopefully.

It is a lot of fun with a group, but it's a massive time sink. It takes hours to get anything done, and it can all be taken away in a second. It's not really for people with jobs.

I've been playing for about a month I guess, maybe a little more. It definitely has a large difficulty curve, which is basically just you taking time to figure out the mechanics of the game, because there's a LOT of small details to it. And honestly, you also have to figure out the bugs and glitches, none of which I've had a lot of trouble with.

I love the game, it's the kind of open-world survival game that I've always craved. I wanted to make a thread for it on TWW, not sure why I didn't.

I have three guys that I play with, but they're not very good and they're all younger and on the West coast. I'd love to find some guys from TWW to play with--that would be more my speed and easier to arrange times to play. This game GREATLY benefits teamwork. Lone players can survive and enjoy themselves, but you run a high risk doing much of anything, and it's harder to get better guns.

EDIT: I should add, I'm pretty geared up, but I die all the time. In this game it's critical you get used to the idea of dying and starting over. If you're the type that gets too greedy or too angry when you lose, this is not the game for you. It's about patience, and the reward is a pretty immersive and incredibly intense game. If anyone wants to hook up and form a squad, I'm down.

To me it seems boring and tedious.

I watched a couple YouTube videos about it, but where do weapons come from exactly? Every to every video I've seen it's always guys looting weapons from dead bodies of other players, but they have to come from somewhere originally.

Holy fuck this shit is fun to play. I was on for 3-4 hours today and only found 1 gun with ammunition. Bohemia would be crazy not to hire the people developing this to put it in Arma 3, hell they could easily make this a standalone game and get $40-50 for it.

been alive for around 8 days now with a friend, got all geared up and started hunting other players for sport. crawled up into a tower in cherno, and found a dead body that was LOADED! picked up a 24 slot backpack, night vision goggles, a ghillie suit, a dmr with a bunch of mags. I almost shit my pants. I scope in with the dmr just to see what it was like then BOOM! sniped in the face.

Best I've seen is the steam combo deal for $30 right now.

It was 50% off a week ago or so though, so maybe that will come around.

Does this not get old? It seems that player vs. player killing is the main thing that happens in the game....seems like getting randomly ganked would get old.

I decided between buying this or battlefield. Even though i've never played an arma or dayz game before, let alone a buggy stand-alone alpha version, I'm really starting to like this style of game. I've played way too much battlefield in the past anyway and an rpg-like survival sim seemed better. Really tired of the whole match-based fps game right now.

After 3 days of trying this game out for the first time, i've had to respawn only once from being shot by a lone bandit with a pistol to the back. All my other deaths have been from starvation or breaking bones from falling. Zombies aren't that hard to avoid it seems.

Right now I managed to get an M4 with a 2x30 coupled magazine, fucking boss. I just scared off 2 survivors (didn't look like bandits) who were scavaging. They ran like hell and the ingame voip was awesome. At first, one of the guys came up to me pleading and offering all his shit. I just dont trust anyone enough, so I kept my gun up and some distance between us.

I haven't used a single bullet yet, reserving it for when I meet that big group of bandits eventually. Just glad I got the biggest ammo mag in the game. My camo is bad ass too, not a ghilie suit but i'm really hard to see because of my color scheme. Pretty much my goal in this game is to get the drop on a group of bandits and wipe them out.

I have an amd phenom I cpu, radeon 7750 series gpu, and 8gb of ram. I can play with everything turned to high but dont.

You need a good graphics card, especially in the cities. Towns not so much. The reason I died to the bandit in the city is because I had all the effects turned to high and wasn't able to run away at normal speed. Too many objects for my graphics to handle. Since then I turned everything to low or off if I could. The quality difference is barely noticeble. Definitely also want to turn off depth of field blur for better vision even though it makes the game so much more realistic. I kinda wish they made that setting mandatory for everyone since it really makes the game seem real if you ask me.

I'm debating whether I'll get the Standalone just yet. $30 is a ridiculous price point for early alpha, but I know I'll probably get my money out of it either way.

I've been considering playing RUST instead, which is basically DayZ with building elements and more hunting. It has maybe more community issues than DayZ though. Both recently brought to Steam, but Rust seems to have more of a duplicating and hacking problem.

I went to the airfield and got into my first fire fight. Luckily I made it out alive...barely. This guy came running up on me with a shotty. He fired 2 shots at me and I still didn't know where he was coming from. I didn't see him till the third hit me in the shoulder and arm almost knocking me down to the ground. I tried to turn and sprayed a barage of bullets in his general direction. I couldn't aim the rifle what so ever. I dont know if I even knicked him but he ran behind a palisade as soon as I opened up fire on him. I ran behind a wall and quickly bandaged myself. Now my vision is all pale and everthing looks faded. I'm currently groaning in pain underneath an evergreen tree wait for my health to return, guess i'll try my luck tomorrow.
