Looking for a set of bt headphones to use while I workout and mow the lawn. They should be able to get a bit sweaty, not fall off, and cancel out some noise... GO! 6/29/2012 12:29:54 PM |

the technology works pretty well in small aircraft, I don't see why it wouldn't work while mowing the yard

under $100. They don't have to be super ridiculous noise cancellation. Just something that plugs or cover the ears well enough to hear the music. I have just basic ear buds (bought for under $4) now that work in a pinch, but the wire is annoying and they are barely loud enough to be heard over the mower.

If you're looking to go to the extreme low end, I can actually halfway recommend these. They don't have any active noise cancelation, but I got a pair of these for my dad for Father's day and he likes them a lot. My sister liked them so much, she ended up buying 2 sets for her and her husband. My dad and sister are both ~60% deaf and have a hard time hearing lots of things, but they both say they can hear these just fine. I cranked them all the way up and they were very loud without being distorted too bad. Obviously, I'm not an audiophile or anything, and neither are they, but they were both happy with them. 6/29/2012 9:18:38 PM |

I have those you mentioned above. They work really really well. The battery life is great, and I like the fact they have a building in microphone so if someone calls, just hit the button on the ear-phone, and your good to go. When they hang up your music starts again. I just them alot for biking. 6/29/2012 10:15:03 PM |

I have these, and they are ROBUST and that's why they Probably have a 3/5 rating since they are sort uncomfy at first but you can get use to them. They have plenty of HEFT (I mean REALLY solid and HEFTY feeling to the touch). I would go with these all day everyday.
The sound quality is not great but is more than fair, and they are highly (I meany HIGHLY) sweat resistant.
Oh and one more thing - the controls on this set are sorta sluggish (have a very short delayed response) though its not terrible, and the controls work exactly right.
Also, they fit tight enough that they might cancel out enough noise for your needs.

At least for sound quality and being able to sweat and work out in them. I run with them a good bit and they're pretty spectacular. Bestbuy had them on sale for $99 a while ago.
They sound pretty amazing and my primary pair of ear buds are Shure se535s so I've got a decent frame of reference. I use them with a Motoactv I picked up for $99 as well. Great combo for running/working out/mowing the lawn. 4/17/2013 12:40:25 AM |

Got them on sale for ~18 from Amazon. I use them every damn day, and I absolutely love them. My mom has a pair now too and she absolutely loves them.
Being headphones and a headset is very very useful. Being at the gym or out running and being able to swap from music to a phone call and back without pulling out your phone is great.
And the battery life is long as hell. 4/17/2013 12:47:36 AM |

I also have the Kinivo BTH220 which I got off of amazon for around $20 about a year ago.
I have no complaints about them. The range is really good. I cant give an exact distance, but there are times when I leave my room and head to the other side of the apartment and have no trouble. The battery life on them is pretty awesome too, I rarely have to charge mine. They feel good, stay on my head, and although they look somewhat bulky, are not heavy at all.
Its especially nice that they have a built in microphone, so if someone calls, you just hit the big button on the side to answer, and when the conversation ends, your music automatically starts playing where it left off. It also has a set of buttons for the volume, and a set to skip tracks (which is really nice when using pandora).
Overall, for $20-30 you cant beat these. Great purchase. I've recommended them to several of my friends, who all love them. 4/18/2013 10:28:36 AM |

It might be worth mentioning, that you can buy bluetooth to 3.5 mm adaptors for cheap that will allow you to use any set of headphones wirelessly through a bluetooth connection. I got one for ~$6 of ebay that was pretty crappy, but then I bought a nicer one off Amazon for $20 and it sounds much better. I don't use it for headphones much, I keep mine in the bathroom hooked up to an old set of PC speakers because I didn't want to leave my phone in the bathroom to get all steamy when I shower. So it's like dual purpose or whatever. 4/23/2013 6:07:50 PM |

I guess the advantage of my bluetooth headphones is I don't have a cable going down past my neck. That would kind of defeat the purpose of bluetooth... 4/23/2013 6:12:56 PM |

damn, even the jaybird bluebuds i am getting irritated with. i found these at radioshack today
http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=16882366
very lightweight for a full headphones model, won't fall off like the jaybirds, < $100, solid 30ft range, easy access to controls. will have to see how long the battery lasts and whether they are still comfortable after wearing for 6 hours at a time.

After running with my Jaybirds for over a year:
http://www.amazon.com/JayBird-BlueBuds-Sport-Bluetooth-Headphones/dp/B00AIRUOI8
I like them and they sound great but they don't always stay in. I sweat a lot and no matter what I do after about 45 minutes in they start slowing slipping out. Then when I push them back in they're just all sweaty and they start getting clogged with ear wax and sweat and don't work anymore.
I'm thinking of switching to an over the ear or simple ear bud headphone. They allow me to actually hear stuff around me (which is a requirement for skiing) and I'm not always pushing them back in.7/3/2014 3:51:41 PM |

I don't know why manufacturers don't work on taking this model: http://amzn.com/B004QWOSLK
And slimming it down to a thinner band. Anyway, these are what I use. The newer models are impossibly bulky, but these are about as thick/bulky as I'd ever tolerate from a behind the head model, which is my preference when running/working out because they firmly stay in place without obstructing anything. Battery life decent and they block out some noise by virtue of filling your ear with silicone on the earbud itself.
I tried the high-end JayBirds and they were terrible fit/secure

I bought the sennheiser mm-550-x headphones recently.
They are GREAT for active noise canceling in airplanes (had both beats studio wireless and the popular bose ones with me too - these were the best of the three for blocking the constant loud sounds in airplanes). I use them on my zero turn mower, and they stay on great. They connect via cable OR bluetooth to my cell phone, or office Cisco IP Phone, laptop, tv, etc.
Best all around earphones I could find. Only wish is that they could connect to more than one device at the same time and allow me to toggle between my iPhone and Cisco IP Phone at work so that I can be interuppted when a call comes in (they work AWESOME as a desk phone headset for calls) and seemlessly go back to what I was listening to when the call has ended. However, solution may be to just forward my calls to my cell, which would solve that problem.
You can buy replacement batteries too, so you can keep a couple on you for long trips that don't have power access. 7/14/2014 3:17:57 PM |

I use this for yardwork and late night television/video gaming if the wife is sleeping...
Not bluetooth but you plug your device into a FM transmitter and it links to the wireless headphones. You can also use the headphones by themselves for am/fm radio. It gets longer range than bluetooth. They are large enough to cancel noise from the lawnmower and it's ok to get them sweaty/dirty because it only costs....
$15
edit: This pair doesn't list the AM/FM option but there are other pairs up at Big Lots for $15 that include that option.

LOL I love how the thread went from dissing Ziks to praising some 15 dollar cans from big lots. As someone who used both of those previously, I can tell you that its the other way around.
If you are going to wear these while mowing a lawn, your best bet would be in-ear style headphones, either the headband ones like Motorola above or the in-ear ones like the jaybird. They will provide much better noise cancellation than anything over-the-ear in that price range. I have a set of Sharper Image-brand ones in that style that were 30 bucks at Marshalls and work pretty well, although for some reason one of the buds gets cellphone interference every once in a while (but oddly not the other one). A cool thing about them is that they can stay connected to two devices at once, which means I can edit videos on my laptop with these things and take calls when they come in without taking out the earbuds. Can't complain about the tonal quality for the price (other than the RF interference) 7/16/2014 9:49:37 PM |

Bluetooth compromises audio quality.
It has its uses, but I wouldn't spend a bunch of money or expect anything that sounded great. BT is more useful for stuff like motorcycle helmet speakers, or cheap headphones for working out where the audio compromises are worth not having a cord to get in the way.
Also, I have never seen noise-cancelling in-ear phones. In-ear phones usually do a pretty good job of passive noise reduction, anyway, and again, their benefit is the small size and light weight. If you want the best sound and noise reduction, you go with active, over-the-ear sets...but that's not what this thread is really about. Again, I don't see the point in spending big bucks on bluetooth and/or in-ear stuff.
