Did anyone receive eng101 credit with an AP score of 3 cerca 2002 or 2003? it's a long story, but basically I am pretty sure that i received a semester of credit for scoring a 3 on the AP exam back in 2002. For some reason my transcript doesn't show the credit I received any longer, but I know that I had credit for this class, as I would not have been allowed to matriculate into my major if I hadn't. I'm trying to find historical requirement for credit via AP scores, but to no avail. So yea, anyone receive credit with a score of 3 in the past? I know not a lot of old timers are likely to read this, but I figured I'd give it a shot.

IIRC, in fall 2000 you had to have a 5 on both the AP English Literature and AP English Composition tests to place out of freshman English. I got a 3 on English Lit (literally drew a comic strip for one of my essays, lawl) and definitely got no credit at NCSU (my HS didn't offer Composition).

why not take the exams? it's time that you didn't have to be in class...I think the school already paid for you to take it so they might have even made it a requirement for us, I can't remember

It was required for us in high school to take it because the school paid for it. if we didn't take it depending on class policy it was either a max of a d or a full letter grade off the final grade

I think at the time the AP score of 3 wasn't enough for credit. There was and still is an option to exempt based on your SAT score; my memory is a bit hazy but I think back when you're talking about it was based on the SAT II subject test score. Now it looks like they're only taking into account this new section of the SAT. Did you take the SAT II and get credit or submit a portfolio for credit?

I didn't submit a portfolio for credit. It has been so long, I just don't remember how I got credit. Long story short I left nc state with two classes left on my major. I came back this summer (about 5 or 6 years later) and all of my transfer and AP credit was out of my degree audit. When it was put back in for some reason I had a transfer credit for eng1**-100, but not eng101, which is what I received the first time. I obviously received credit, or I would have never been allowed to matriculate into my major (ece).

I have completed all, but one ece course for graduation, but am not going to be allowed to graduate until I have credit for eng101. I have taken and received an A in both a 400 and 300 level English class. I also received a perfect score on the writing portion of the gre. I really don't think it should be deemed necessary for me to take a freshmen level writing course to ensure that I am able to write at a level to succeed in future classes, as I have already demonstrated this ability by succeeding in said classes. It's just kind of a frustrating situation because I don't know why the credit is not showing up this time around like it did last time, and I just really would prefer to not have to take eng101 at this point in my academic career. Not too sure what to do though. I guess I am going to submit a petition to the first year writing program. Any insight would be appreciated, but I'm not too sure if anyone is going to have any experience with something like this, as it's sort of an unusual case.

I received a 3 or a 4 on my AP Lit exam and received credit for an entry level English class. This was Fall 2000, and I don't think it was English 101 at the time. It seems like a 5 would have given me six hours of course credit but the 3/4 (whatever I got) only gave me three.

that was back in the days of ENG 111 and ENG 112 which was later scrapped for ENG 101

If you did get credit for ENG 111 only they used to teach ENG 112 online through wake tech, which is what I did and that was so easy it was a joke

When I started NCSU in 2000, I had received a 4 on my AP English Lit test. This allowed me to take ENG 113. Passing ENG 113 basically gave you credit for ENG 111 and ENG 112, thus completing the two class English requirement in one class.

I'm all but certain the English requirement and how AP classes changed shortly after, but I couldn't put a date on it from memory. According to NCSU's website, they only give credit for a score of 5 now. I'm glad I got my credit when I did.

I didn't take AP English in high school. Instead I just took the equivalent of ENG 111 & 112 at community college during my senior year. Luckily NC State took that as 6 credit hours, and I came into freshman year with 10 hours (4 more hours due to AP Calc). I'm not sure if my HS GPA was boosted due to these classes though.

Somehow when I entered back in 2002, there was some loophole that allowed you to get out of English with SAT I Verbal scores alone. I didn't take either AP English course in high school, and I graduated NCSU without ever taking an English course. I want to say you needed a 700 minimum, maybe. I had 710. LAWL!

I'm fairly positive you needed a 4 or 5 to get college credit for English, but for some reason you only needed a 3 to get credit for US History and/or European History. I say this based on the fact I took AP English junior and senior year, got a 3 both years and didn't receive any credit, but got a 4/3 in US/Euro and got credit for both.

^lucky bastard. how is a 710 better than two 3s on AP Exams? Not that I care, English 111Z was a joke.

I took AP English in 2004 and made a 3 on the exam, which wasn't enough to place out of ENG 101, which was the requirement at the time. I heard rumors at the time that a 4 and some sort of written composition notebook would get you the ENG 101 credit, but I'm not sure if it was true. A 5 was the only way to get guaranteed credit for 101 at that time.

I think it was a test class, not sure but I believe they got rid of the class after a year or 2

in fall of 04, if you met the SAT req (> 700 verbal) you could submit a packet, and that would exempt you if they accepted it (which they didn't accept mine but i met one of my best friends in ENG101, so oh well).

don't remember the AP score req though.

Do this. I left school for several years and when I came back requirements had changed and the system said I needed to take several Gen Ed classes to graduate. I talked to my advisor, told her my situation and she waved these requirements.

I started at NCSU in 2003. Had 750 verbal on the SAT so I just submitted the portfolio and got credit for ENG 101. The AP test requirement was definitely a 5 on both English AP tests. I went to a poor ass school that wouldn't pay for the tests so my English teacher told us not to bother taking them.

This I can attest to for Fall 2001. Getting 5's on both exams or an SAT score that high was near impossible. A lot of us made friends in whatever ENG113 course we ended up in first semester.



What makes this difficult is that they changed everything to ENG101 in Fall 2003. So a 2002-2003 timeframe complicates things. More details here:

In short, you need to email or call an academic advisor for your college/department. Do it AFTER winter graduation and BEFORE the new semester begins in the spring, lots of down time. They will be able to explain exactly what is (or is not) needed, as well as be able to issue the credit as needed.

I think it was a 5 on AP in 2001.... Or SAT over a certain number or sat 2.

If i remember right

you could take 113, instead of 111 and 112.

But if you didn't take 113, then you couldnt just take 112...
