We have this beautiful Matador Red model here, however, if you take it in the brown I'll give you $500...

I believe this is what they call an Oxymoron.

I've been negotiating with 3 Honda Dealers on a new car this past week.
I can say Leith Honda is the worst. Then Autopark Honda in Cary.
All of them just want to screw you over.

From personal experience, Hendrick Kia will give you damn good money on your trade but then be miserly on the sale price. Not optimal but it worked for my purposes.

They're going to get theirs somehow, basically. It's on you to either minimize the screwing, or at least adapt it to your desired purpose.

I've been dealing with 4 Hyundai dealerships.

One is extremely pushy...but they will take care of all maintenance including oil etc changes for 2 years.

Another claims to take the powertrain warranty from 10 years to lifetime.

Another one says we don't do that, we just have lower prices!

Another one drove by my house with the car I wanted calling me on the phone. I politely told them to get screwed.

I've bought 4 used cars from Fred Anderson Toyota and had really good service there.

Don't be afraid to branch out beyond the Raleigh area. When I bought my truck in 2009, I tried all the local triangle area dealerships, requesting the exact same truck configuration order (not an on-lot vehicle) and I had a target priced based on research. After hours dealing with them, none of them could get to my target, telling me they'd be "losing money" and "that's an impossible price."

Then I made one phone call to Crown Ford in Fayetteville, told the guy exactly what I wanted and what the other dealerships said. He said, "They're just not willing to budge on their take, give me a couple hours and I'll email you a quote." Sure enough he did, right at my target, I signed off on the quote, gave him a deposit and the truck was ordered. I never met him until the day I showed up to pick up the truck.

Just do plenty of research, know exactly what you are willing to pay for specific configurations, and don't budge. It's more work, but it saved me about $4500.

well, what kind of car are you thinking of buying? i think that info helps.

BMW -- I've always had great experiences at Performance BMW in Chapel Hill. Leith on capital doesn't seem too bad. I had a recall done there recently that would have cost me $1000+ but they did it for free even though it was a little past the recall period.

Toyota -- I do NOT like Fred Anderson Toyota on Glenwood. They couldn't even change the oil on my 4runner correctly. Twice I had to go back because my engine was smoking since they didnt tighter the oil filter. They also wanted to charge me $100 to change a read brake light bulb. I was like, no thanks, I'll just go to Pep Boys for $3. Plus that son in the commercials is annoying as hell.

Toyota -- I've heard that Toyota of Durham guy in those commercials may be annoying on TV, but he's a really nice guy in person. I've never had any experiences myself.

VW -- I like Leith VW in Cary Autopark. Sometimes I take my Jetta there for maintenance. They always treat me right and never oversell nor are they pushy.

Acura - the one in Autopark Cary is pretty good. I know a real great salesman there. Not sure if there's another Acura dealership in town?

Jeep - the one in Autopark Cary is shady. Don't get Boris, the croatian speaking salesman! he will try to sell you everything, including his kids

Inifiniti - why is there only one in town?! no competition!

Lexus - Johnson Lexus...meh....not impressed, but the lady greeter at the front is HOT HOT HOT !!

Audi - the one on capital, they seem more interested in staying inside to enjoy the A/C than selling cars

MB - I prefer the Autopark Cary one over the one on Capital. I know a cool salesman there. But he did hit some funny snafu's with us. LMAO. Oh, They serve sandwiches and desserts on the house!

Honda -- The Leith Honda and Cary Autopark Honda folks are snobby as HELL. The nigerian salesman at Honda, typical Nigerian selling schemes. I knew a lot more than him. He wanted to sell me wheel locks since he said people steal Honda wheels. I was like for real? I've had much better wheels on my ride and I'm not even concerned about people stealing those.

Honda -- Has anyone bought from Crown Honda in Southpoint before? Any experiences to share? I'm wheeling and dealing with them.

I will second this. If you want the least douchebaggy salesman on the planet, go ask for Shawn. I bought an '06 BMW 530xi wagon from him in April. He does exactly what I want a salesman to do-- answer any questions i have about the car, do paper work, let me drive the car, and not be too bothered with WHEN I WILL BUY.

[Edited on July 13, 2012 at 12:41 PM. Reason : my stepfather-in-law recommended him to me, he's bought his last 3 cars from the guy.]

^Be wary of their service department. I had a professional mechanic buddy a few years ago that had to quit there due to the unethical actions and "unwritten" policies that were in place. Charging people for work that was never done, making up necessary repairs or maintenance and not doing the work, padding maintenance lists, etc.

Perhaps things have changed over the past 4-5 years, but based on my friend's report, it was BAD.
