Sweet. 3 refer a friend credits right before they canned the old program. I didn't refer any of them so guess they just clicked my link in my profile on the RW forums.

Only the messages from yesterday were there. Any new messages would appear in my notifications in the top, along with the first few words, but nothing appeared in the conversations, and no new conversations and begun. Had to delete my old convos with my Mom and GF to get new messages to appear. Even then, the ones sent in the meantime never appeared."

I had something similar happen to me the other day. I think they were google hangout messages. I did not try to fix it, since I was near my computer and they were present there.

Anyone here submit their Defy XT for the Moto X using the Motorolla Tradeup Rebate program?

I shipped my Defy XT on Feb 11th. It was delivered February 13th. Rebate says Produt Delivered to Recycler February 22 (estimated date) and validated by recycler February 27 (estimated date). Motorola site is indicating items have not be received by the rebate center...

*sigh*

I did. Here's my dates:

Quote :
"Product Delivered To Recycler: January 10, 2014 (actual)
Product Validated By Recycler: January 10, 2014 (actual)
Reward Issued: January 24, 2014 (estimated)
Reward Recieved: Via First Class Mail."

It's March 5th, and I still haven't received the $100 card. If you have all February dates, you're probably going to be waiting awhile.

Wait, seriously? I remember getting something in the mail from them with a card it, and i'm pretty sure I threw it out because I thought it was just some scam or fake promotion. Oh crap. Maybe I still have it somewhere.

I don't recall anything from Clover Wireless. I go through my mail pretty carefully before throwing stuff out too, so I'm 95% sure I haven't thrown it out.

It sincerely baffles me that the vast majority of people don't open mail if they aren't expecting it or don't know who the sender is.

If I get mail, I'm opening it unless the receiver's name is not my own.

How can my Dad get in contact with Republic to find out about coverage in his area? Apparently he has some quesitons for them and he cant find any contact info. Neither could I after a quick search.

Since they use Sprint for cellular usage, I'd suspect http://coverage.sprint.com/IMPACT.jsp?INTNAV=ATG:HE:Cov would be a good place to start. Outside of that, anywhere with a decent wifi connection that isn't locked down should also work. They don't have a public support number so you have to open a trouble ticket on their site to contact them.

^^ He needs to join the forums. Also you can submit a Support Ticket via email, this is how they conduct like 95% of communication.

Looks like reactivations and the Moto G (8 and 16GB) are coming within the next month or so. Hopefully Kitkat for the Moto X won't too far behind.

I'm glad I did not wait for the MotoG since it does not qualify for the $100 Jellybean rebate. I would have only saved about $30.

Also I have a dropsuit case for the DefyXT if anyone wants it.

I'm still waiting for my rebate as well.

For future reference, here is where you check the status of the rebate:
https://www.mototradeup.com/?q=returning_users

My status says:
Quote :
"Product Delivered To Recycler: February 8, 2014 (estimated)
Product Validated By Recycler: February 13, 2014 (estimated)
Currently: We are currently waiting for the arrival of your recycled product. Please allow 7-10 days from the date of shipping to receive your confirmation email indicating your product has been received and independently verified. Print your prepaid shipping label."

I have confirmation that it was delivered:
Quote :
"January 29, 2014 , 11:33 am
Delivered
IRVINE, CA 92618 "

I have no idea why the product delivered to the recycler is still listed as estimated. 6-8 weeks was the estimated time of getting the rebate, so I guess there are a few days left.

Just got this update today. It took nearly 2 months to verify I can have a rebate. Now another 6-8 weeks to get it. At least it's moving forward.

1st phone FTW.

I dunno why people are so skurd go give up the constant data connection. It was a no-brainer for me, and besides I analyzed my monthly mobile data usage and I was only using like 200-300mb while on the Sprint network. It feels just about the same with RW as it did with Sprint except I save a TON of moolah baby

Got my rebate in the mail yesterday. Pretty cool that they offer 5% cash back on the card within 10 days if you use it at certain retailers. So that's like up to $105.26 in my pocket!*

I'm pretty sure my rebates came in a couple of months ago, and I thought it was spam mail so I threw it away (I remember getting something from Clover Wireless and not knowing what it was).

I contacted Moto like 4 times and finally heard something back, saying that they were canceling the previous card and would send me a new one. In big letters in the email it said:
Quote :
"The card will be mailed in a plain white envelope not to be mistaken for unsolicited mail."

Been talking to my Dad about potentially switching him and my mother to Republic Wireless. They recently upgraded their internet package (15mbps down) and get terrible, terrible Verizon reception here. They're not sure how Sprint will be. Coverage maps all say they're fine (a major highway is in view) but in reality both Verizon and AT&T phones come here to die. A couple blocks up the street... it's fine. Verizon refuses to buy them one of those signal boosters or whatever. If they switched to Republic Wireless, they'd save money and benefit from the wifi VOIP goodies even if reception in the house isn't great. Problem is, they'd like to test if the Sprint coverage would really be okay.

Has anyone done the tactic of buying a phone/account (not migrating your number yet, probably still on your other service) and doing a test period where you travel your normal routes and haunts to see if everything seems good? And if you don't like it, you cancel. If you do like it, you transfer the number and keep it.

Try it out. You really don't have anything to lose, except for the shipping. But the $10 shipping or so is completely reasonable when you consider the possible long term savings and, in your parents' case, a plan that will WORK where others fall a little short.

Quote :
"What is the 30-day, money-back satisfaction guarantee?

If you are not completely satisfied with Republic Wireless or your phone with WiFi Hybrid Calling, you can return it for a full refund (minus shipping). We figure a month is long enough to know whether the phone and our service are for you. Simply contact us within 30 days of joining and we'll cancel your service, provide instructions for returning your phone, and process your refund upon receiving it"

https://republicwireless.com/faqs

I was going to do the 30 day thing with RW, but I loved it so much I didn't need to return mine. I'm fully confident in this company and would not hesitate to give them a try.

I talked to my father about it and he wants to give it a try, but I was forward about my concerns that the support system for Republic Wireless was a little outside conventional support that people his age (60+) are used to. He's actually a very technically-minded person, and could use the RW forums and email them when he isn't able to overcome a technical issue, but my mother not so much (it would be her first smartphone--likely we'd get her a Moto G and he'd get a Moto X). The Republic Wireless wiki has a "complete list of caveats" (http://republic-wireless.wikia.com/wiki/The_Complete_List_of_Caveats) that made me a little concerned about, if they ever did have any problems, how it would impact them.

But yes, he's going to take my advice and give a test trial. So we'll see how that goes. I should be switching carriers here soon, and while I'm still debating between a Moto X / Republic Wireless or a Nexus 5 / T-Mobile, I'm definitely leaning RW based on savings and my usage patterns.

Looks like only 2k will get it for now.

Quote :
"The Rollout
As with any new release, we’ve tested the update extensively—still, the absolute best way for us to battle test the customer experience is to bring some of you guys on board. So what we’ve done TODAY is randomly release KitKat to 2,000 of you—those folks will have an Over The Air (OTA) update available to them which will load up KitKat.

Why are we releasing it randomly? First, to ensure that we’ve got a wide variety of testers. Second, because it’s the fastest way to get it out for testing (and as we understand from you, speed is of the essence!).

Why 2K? 2,000 is just enough that we’ll have lots of data to play with, but small enough that we can handle the feedback all at once. We expect to let KitKat marinate with those lucky folks until April 30, and then (barring any unlikely issues), we’ll roll this out to our next batch of folks for our deeper dive test. We’ll continue to roll out in batches until we’re confident that the user experience meets our high standards for you guys. Our goal is to have everyone on board by May 9.

TL;DR?
We’re releasing in phases to ensure we nail the user experience. We aim for everyone to have it by May 9, though it’s possible it would roll out earlier depending on how the releases go."

Epic triple post. Moto X KitKat update file for the impatient among us (aka me)

http://bit.ly/1jx4HrA

Installation Instructions- https://community.republicwireless.com/message/210418#210418

Should be able to skip #2 and just rename the file to update.zip before copying it to the phone. Also for #8, the new recovery installed and booted back up to initial recovery screen (green android with red exclamation) so I just repeated 6, 7 and 8.

Quote :
"Alright, we were half way there before.... here's the corrected instructions....

1. Copy the update.zip off your phone before flashing the .sbf
2. Restore stock 4.2.2 using the SBF and RSDlite
3. Once back in the OS, copy the update.zip to the root of your internal storage (name it update.zip, it didn't work for me this way with the original file name)
4. Power down, then hold volume down while powering on
5. Press volume down to go to recovery, then volume up to select it
6. When you see the red exclamation point android icon, hold volume up and press Power
7. In recovery, use the volume up/down icons to navigate and Power button to select. Choose Apply update from SD card.
8. Choose Update.zip and wait a few minutes
9. When the flashing process completed, just reboot. You're done.

Remember to take the Republic Wireless app update after 4.4.2 installs and reboots."
