I haven't played forza 3 or forza 4 in a long time.
I have a computer that can run racing sims, but i don't have one installed...

Damn, I need to get on that.

iRacing.

Its awesome, the most realistic sim you will see. All their tracks are laser scanned.

If I had a $2000 computer I'd be down for that...but I don't.

$1k would do it for sure. PPl sell used rigs on the iracing forums all the time in the $600-800 range. Then $200 for a wheel/pedals. If you already have a logitech ps3 wheel, it'll work with PC.

I haven't touched GT5 since getting iRacing. In some ways GT is more fun and iRacing is more work because you have to practice and you really can't crash or screw up without consequence. But i'm finding iRacing MUCH more rewarding. I've also been learning real life tracks with it and they're translating well into real life so far. Well NHMS and VIR are the only tracks i've driven in both real life and iRacing, but both translate well. I learned NHMS in iRacing first, and when i got on track i was up to speed in no time.

I tried iracing but it just felt so different than actual driving. Maybe I need a force feedback wheel or something. I've never driven a car on track, so maybe that's it but it just didn't "feel right." The track accuracy was mostly spot on, but I found the grip level in the game was always consistent where it isn't in real life.

iracing is a monthly subscription?

[deal_breaker]

There is definitely different textures and grip levels. All track textures are laser sampled. You can feel seals, bumps, patches, etc just like on the real track. What isn't model'ed though is offline dirt and marbles, etc.

I spend more on M&Ms than i do on iRacing. Just did the 2 years for $99 deal. 3 months for $13 is pretty common too. You do have the option to buy additional content though which can add up. Fortunately all the rookie level stuff is included.

Its not the best thing ever, but as far as bang for the time commitment.. i think i put it ahead of autox.

well autox (IMO) is a horrible use of time. 10 hours at an event and less than 10 minutes of driving.
