Hey everyone,

My name is Dan Molenhouse, I am new to NCSU and new to North Carolina as a whole. I am from chicago and this is pretty much my first time being in NC. I am having a somewhat hard time finding the right group of people, so I realized I need to find some car guys. I am really into cars and basically all of my guy friends in IL are into cars.

Unfortunately I could not bring my car to NC ( I Really miss driving), but I'll tell you about it anyways. It's a 1998 Mustang GT Convert. with a 5-speed. I have completely rebuilt and restored the whole car myself for the most part. The only thing I didn't do myself was resurfacing the flywheel when I did an engine swap. Everything else me and my friends did.

I'll just post the performance mods I have done though to not waste people's time:

2001 4.6L Windsor 2V engine swap (New engine has less than 40k on the clock)
K&N Air Filter/Air silencer removed (basically CAI)
93 Octane Tune
MGW Short Throw Shifter
Catless 2.5" H-Pipe
Magnaflow Cat-back exhaust
2001 Cobra Wheels
Can't forget the Kenwood KIV-700 Headunit/Mach 460 sound system
brand new tires, shocks, brake rotors and pads on all four wheels.

Here's a picture, mine's on the right:
http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq326/DutchManDann/2012-08-08_22-40-06_88.jpg

So yeah just introduce yourself, I am open to meeting new people and all that obviously.

Also I was just wondering if anyone knows of a car club of some kind on campus? I know there is the Wolfpack Motorsports, but that's more Go Karts and I was looking for a legit car club.

Thanks,
Dan

Welcome to the garage!

there are a few rules here:
1.) The garage is not what it use to be - never think that 'this is the heyday' of the garage.
2.) Don't pimp your ride, let your ride pimp itself.
3.)....
4.) Better strap on your boots because it gets rough in here. Lots of shit talking, banter, srsness, funnay, and down right clique-esqueness happenings.

Oh, also.... wanna race?

This just may be a requirement for any kind of credibility needed to get into a car club.

Anyone can post pics of a car and claim a fake mod list.

^^ it's not thaaat highly modded.

I have a question though are mod motors really considered "Windsor motors" otherwise you have a 281 CID cam in block motor ?

Lol if I was going to fake a mod list, I probably would have included a Kenne Bell, subframe connectors, 4.10 rear end, probably Pirelli Pzeros, and all forged internals. I haven't done a whole lot of straight performance mods because I bought the car as basically a beater piece of crap and spent all my money making it something decent.

I am trying to get my car down here but I just didn't know how the parking worked on campus, and I heard that vandalism is a little bit of an issue. So next semester or next year at the latest I should have my car down here. And if that's not good enough, I have pictures of the engine swap and pictures by me and my car...

The Modular motors (in Mustangs at least) are either Windsor or Romeo. My stock Non-PI 4.6L was a Romeo block. The 2001 is a Windsor because in the mustangs from the year 1999-early '01 they had Windsor motors. Late '01-04 had Romeo engines again. I don't really understand why Ford did this, but for the most part it doesn't really make a difference.

As far as the car club goes, I just want to meet people who are into cars and some sort of car club would be perfect for that. Thanks for the quality welcomes lol

Lol thanks, I don't know jack about mod blocks I guess I have a 5.4 Windsor (2v pi) in my truck then lol.

I'm one of those idiots who can't keep shit stock even if he knows it's just a dd or a truck for utility sake. I've been eyeballing the fuck out of the trick flow heads but I don't need a high winding. Truck motor... Doesn't mean I don't want one lol.

Just a heads up my subie has a larger than stock turbo and that short bed ram is a diesel

Yeah I wouldn't mess with a Subaru on the street, too quick (at least not until I get a new rear end...if I get 4.10s or 3.73 my car will have a really quick 0-60 )

Most truck engines are Windsors, the Windsor plant was meant to make only truck engines and for some reason some mustangs got them.

And yeah I am always buying new things that I don't need for my car haha. My goal is to make it keep up with new camaros eventually. But that will require a lot of money and time haha.

And just wondering, is anyone on this board a current NCSU student or anything? Seems like there's not or at least none my age

I'll go ahead and say it.

Horsepowerjunkies.com

Lots of stangs, vettes, cam arrows (SWIDT?), trans ams, fire birds, a few vipers, a couple p- and f- cars. But mostly things that go fast in a straight line.

I'm in school, but I've got a few years on all the ladies in my class, minus the prof...

The thing is, a car can pull so much harder under lateral acceleration and change directions w/braking, cornering and acceleration that it's something to behold to ride with somebody that can drive a capable sports car. The 911 does have unique characteristics that make it stand out from other cars but if all you've messed with is a "stang w/some engine work and Pirelli tires", then really any halfway decent sports car driven well should be eye opening. I still remember my first time.

just pull your dick out and go to slingin' - you'll fit right in.

also note, Sparky & underPSI are the mods around here. They are cool guys and generally everything goes. unless you make a dumbass thread or a 'duplicate' thread. Sometimes, that happens to the best of us.

Do note the following personnas around here, as you will begin to tag the individual users with them. Included but not limited to:

- European manufacture elitists
- concept car connoiseurs
- horsepower junkies
- good 'ole boys
- diesel enthusiasts
- "my car is making this noise, what's broke?"

Have you hit up any on-campus clubs or such yet?

Im still in school but usually just a lurker around these parts. Skins not thick enough and such.

Friday nights at sonic on western is where alot of people go to shoot the shit and talk about how awesome there "stance" is.

Not sure if the "Wolfpack Auto Racing Club" is still active or not. Might try the university club list? I know the president was graduating or had already graduated.

Mustangs aren't really about HP, more about torque. I haven't dinoed mine but the engine makes 305 ft/lbs stock, not considering any of my mods. If I got gears, that torque would be put to much better use and my car would actually be quick on the street. (Not that it isn't quick already, I win a lot of red-light races but that's partially because I am not a shit driver like everyone else in Illinois). Although I am going to get subframe connectors before I get gears

And as far as the clubs here go, the only club I can find that is remotely about cars is the Formula SAE Wolfpack Motorsports and i dont know if those kids are even into cars. If there isn't a real car club I might start one.

I will definitely have to look into going to sonic on a friday night if that's where people head.

Having seen pictures of this guy's leg after getting hit by a boat prop I can confirm that his skin is not very thick.

HPJ is cool and you will find a lot more muscle car folks there, but TWW is worth sticking around as well.

Welcome!
If you had to swap the engine anyway, should have gone with the Cobra engine.
(Yes, I know it's easier and cheaper to mod the 2V. But I used to have a Marauder so I'm partial to the 4V 4.6.)

well, that's how assholes that get excited about cars seem to us moderns that live in the future. Cars are lol. what a useless waste of money. not good for transport, commuting is obsolete, not good for status everyone has one, not good for etc. car is worthless dinosaur.

^^^ A part of me wishes that were the case, as indeed cars are quite inefficient as forms of transport for individuals.

That said, I have many things that don't make logical sense yet bring me joy like an overpriced stereo that by any measurable metric is outdone by others which cost less. I have an XC single speed bicycle that is less efficient than a geared bike, slower than a full suspension one, yet I prefer it because of it's mechanical pureness.

Of course I know that you probably didn't mean your comments seriously... It is something I think about on occasion though.
