I also got the TWC notice about charging $3.95/month for the modem. This means I will be paying $48/year to "lease" the same modem that I can buy used off amazon for $29.99:
http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-SURFboard-SBV5220-Digital-Integrated/dp/B000TKHW5M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1351730116&sr=8-1&keywords=cable+modem+sbv5220

Does anyone know if I would be able to use this even though it's not on the timewarnercable.com/approveddevices list? I need a modem like this that has the phone ports for digital phone, apparently none on the approved list have phone integrated?

I wonder if I have to pay the lease fee as a digital phone customer.

None of the devices on the list are VOIP routers.

^Are you guys signing up as new users? I need this pricing bad...

Just spent 3 hours on the phone w/ them to lower my bill(was 158) and get rid of HBO...long story short, I no longer have HBO but my bill is 154 AND it's going to go back up to 158 thanks to the modem rental. I'm prepared to walk away.

No clue where they're getting that pricing from either. I just called up to cancel my cable because the bill has creeped up $15 from where I just called them a couple of months ago. Got the standard offers of crap (I'm calling to cancel service, not add a home phone people). Basically was told they could get it back to where it was a few months ago (drop the ~$15), but that was it. They are scheduled to come cancel my junk this week and I was told I have 3 business days to drop off my box. That won't be an issue, I'll do it tomorrow. Good riddance.

FYI, my latest bill was for $120 and the offer was to make it about 105.

Anybody buy their own modem yet? Im surprised TWC even put out that list of approved devices. I imagine a lot of those listed on amazon and ebay will be out of stock before too long especially at $25 used.

^^Uverse is cheap...but I haven't done any research yet on it's speeds in area where they have laid their full suite groundwork. If it's not fast enough to stream on my ATV or Roku it's a deal breaker...but I want to keep WatchESPN.

Uverse isn't available at my place apparently, so it's AT&T DSL, roadrunner, or crap. I'll probably just stick with roadrunner for now.

That's crazy, I have the 30 Mbps and it's ~$54 per month. I had that price for a year, just ran out last month, called and they gave that rate right back to me for another year. (I have internet only, no tv or phone service)

I'll be calling up in the next day or two to bitch about my internet price and see if it does any good. Dropped my box off today at the main TWC office (that place needs it's own peopleofwalmart site, good lord). 48+ hours since canceling with no calls yet, dropping off my box might kill any calls I would have received though.

I pay 59.80 for digital cable/dvr/road runner.

I switched a while back to uverse and the price jumped after the intro period so i cancelled tv but kept uverse internet and went with ota.

A few months later there was a twc rep going door to door in my neighborhood with this deal with the price guaranteed for 2 years. I was already paying 45 + 12 for internet and tivo so it was an easy decision.

My guess is they were targeting neighborhoods with a lot of recently cancelled subscriptions due to Uverse

^ I wish a rep would do that for my apt complex. FYI for anyone else wanting to do the personal modem you'll have to waste an hour of phone time to register your modem's MAC ID and will take longer if it is already registered to someone else's TWC account.

Well today was the day, I got the please don't cancel on us call a little while ago. I received three initial offers:

1. Drop the rate on my current RR Standard (she had to call in to make sure she could do that, wasn't sure).
2. Upgrade my current internet to RR Extreme for the same price as I'm currently paying for RR Standard.
3. Upgrade my current internet to RR Extreme, give me back my current TV service with HD DVR, and give me an additional 2nd HD DVR box that I don't already have for $90+tax (with a side offer of "I'll see if I can get that to $90 including taxes with just the one HD DVR box).

I told them to price out all three options if they want, but I will likely still be canceling my cable. We'll see what the return call brings.

UPDATE: Just received the followup call. Apparently she didn't ask about option 1 when she called in to her supervisors, so we didn't discuss that much (I will likely call into TWC customer service and ask about that one on my own). Option 2 still on the table to increase my speed and keep my price the same. Option 3 apparently was a no go, she was told that offer was no longer valid and apologized for "getting my hopes up" on that deal, which she didn't because I wasn't really interested in it to begin with.

Going with option 2 for now, and will likely see if I can drop the speed/price back on option 1 if RR extreme isn't as extreme as I like my internet to be.

Also, she encouraged me to hand out her number if anybody wants a direct number to call and is interested in lowering their bill or canceling service, so let me know if you want it. Pretty sure she was local it was a Raleigh number that showed up on my phone.

For Durham the TWC website lists 20mbps internet at $44.94 ( +modem fee) for new users. Any way I can get this lower?

We had been paying $114 for standard RR + 1 DVR box and no premiums, jumped up to $121 (dvr fee waived expired), so I called last week to cancel. They tossed me over to retention, she said the best she could do was knock off the $7 fee again. I told her there is no reason we should be paying what we're paying for what we've got and I'd like to go ahead and cancel if she can't do anything else, she said sorry to hear that and scheduled them to come out today. We never got a follow-up call, so I guess they're done playing that game.

Still got that number Sweden?

I had the triple play bundle for ~$112/mo....best deal ever, fast internet and the bill was never wrong.

Then the DVR fucked up and deleted the bachelor while my wife was watching it.

RIP TWC

I canceled my TV with TWC and went to Directv. TWC wanted a poop ton to turn the house into a whole home dvr where as Directv was dirt cheap and the signal quality is much much better than what I was getting from TWC. It took 45 mins on hold with TWC to finally get to talk to someone to cancel. I won't miss that... Got a couple chances to lower my bill but they did drop the internet down by about 50%. Got a call back a few hours later from the retention specialist and turned them down as well.

Well ... I moved, so I just signed up for 50/20 in Morrisville. The website doesn't even show it yet but the phone rep told me it's true (it better be). I was on 30/5 for the past year at $55/mo.

Full range of new prices are:

$75: 50/20 (was $65: 50/5)
$65: 30/10 (was $55: 30/5)
$55: 20/5 (was $45: 20/1, so low.)

I'm a sucker for faster up, and since they've only increased prices by $10 they're gouging me more, I'm doubling my speed and now paying $75/mo (using my own modem) for 50/20.

This is good that TWC is feeling slight competition to increase speeds, but can we now just get Gigabit fiber rolling through this joint to bring prices down AND speeds up? Kthx.

That is all.

Damn TWC ups their speeds right before I move. Stuck with Comcast. Although they do offer 50/10 and 105/20 in Denver. Woohoo.
