The chief issue with the current mod structure is the complete lack of accountability. Once someone is made a moderator, through whatever nefarious means that process entails, they essentially have carte blanche to rule as they please. There is no rating system, no approval polls, no performance review. They’re given the keys to rule with absolute authority in whichever subforum they’ve been appointed. This leads to a myriad of problems and contributes largely to the general sense of malaise this place has been suffering from for several years now. There is no protocol for dealing with offenders; its simply up to the mods discretion. Users are given free reign to pollute the boards with incessant drivel, while first time offenders are banished for weeks or even months for the most trivial of violations. We can all agree this isn’t a college message board anymore, and despite the efforts of the tunnel painting crew, it never will be again. It’s a place for 24-37 year olds to bitch about their jobs and opine about politics and current events. Which is fine…but if the fabric of the userbase shifts, the power structure should shift accordingly. Trim the fat.
