well do you?

I feel silly dropping $120 on amp and sub at 30 yrs old, but dammit, sometimes I just want that bass around. This is in my maxima that I only ride solo; the van gets family duty

Still have a sub, and have had a sub since 2003. Wouldnt trade it for anything. Its not like I'm riding around playing 50Cent, I simply like more depth in my music.

I put one in the wife's Lexus this summer. Factory sub had great clarity, but lacked volume. Fixed that right up and now it sounds like a concert inside. I'm amazed that a quality 8" long throw sounds better than the two 10's in the MX-3. I don't need to do competitions, but my wife and I are audiophiles. I'm only 26, and though I did feel kinda silly about the purchase as well, we enjoy the sound of our music so much more now that it feels worth the investment.

yes... in the civic. single Kicker CompVR 12", circa 2005. The rest of the speakers are showing age (installed prior to 2003), but gotta have a little bump.

FTR, when the Porsche gets up and running, I'll probably move the 8" in the Lexus to the Porsche and add a 10w7 to the Lexus. But that's a few years to come

Yes. The 4Runner Limited sound system is pretty loud/crisp, but had really bad lows. Added a Kicker ZX750.1 amp and Infinity Perfect 12 in a sealed box. Sounds great and takes very little room.

My civic has a factory 8" subwoofer. While not great, it is adequate for what it is.

I had a 15" in the GTI.
I was about to hide 2- 8w3 subs in the Juke just before I sold it. It had a factory 8" sub.
The maxima has two factory 'woofers' that do a decent enough job for now.

I would if mine hadn't kicked the bucket a few years ago. I'll probably break down and get a new setup one of these days.

well now I don't feel so bad

I just picked up an 1200w Xplod amp (yes lol) that I run unbridged at 200w rms. 500w rms bridged @ 4 ohms if I really wanted it. It does the job

I'm thinking of picking up this dvc MTX 7500 12" sub+box for a couple bucks, but I really wanted a solobaric for space-saving

[Edited on September 26, 2012 at 5:06 PM. Reason : ok n/m apparently L7's sound terrible according to internets]

I have a 12" L7 in my boat. Sounds good to me. I get plenty of nasty looks when I'm blasting that Lil Jon at 7:00 in the morning.

hell yeah i have a sub. in fact i have 2 of them in the same vehicle with 600 watts pushing them. just because it can knock doesn't mean it has to. a sub is a must if you want any type of decent s.q.

^installing a sub/amps/more speakers in my boat is my next audio project.

Stock sound systems are good enough for most people and the trend has basically died down, especially with the economy.

I like my stock boss sound system in my Acura, but if I had another car that lacked a decent sound system, I'd go back and put a 10 or 12" JL W7 with a decent amp in a compact closed box. If anything, I'd go with a smaller 10" to save space in the trunk.

^really? fooled around with chic with a 2012 Acura with bose system and I feel like the clarity was terrible. it sounded like a pair of beats by dre. solid but boomy bass, muddy mids and unbearable sibilance in the highs. not bad for stock but i can think of better ways to spend 3k

I have 2 8.5" woofers (plus 11 other speakers) from the factory and there wasn't anything saving money about it, that was an expensive a shit option. I could have thrown a sub and amp in there for way less money but it wouldn't look as good or sound as good.

My stereo is totally tight butthole

[Edited on September 27, 2012 at 11:31 AM. Reason : whoa, apparently it was a $4500 option. I'm just leasing though, but I did have to pay more for it]

i have a single 10 in a sealed box in the trunk of my audi powered by a kenwood 300w rms amp. not over the top, but definitely adds depth to the music.

460W BRIDGED & FAN COOLED.

....gain turned 1/2 way up and never uses bass boost.

My gain is turned way down too. From what I've read my amp should be making somewhere around 900 watts with ~13.8v at 2 ohms if I turned it up. Way overkill for what I'm doing, but I think I paid $77 for it. It has a small enough footprint to fit under a seat and not be visible so I didn't see any point in selling it and buying something smaller.

Anything from Bose in recent years have been shit and I agree, they don't have good clarity with almost no mids, but I have and older Acura; 03 TL and it sounds pretty damn good. It could use better highs, but I'm not touching the sound system in this car.

Besides, my car has the stupid one piece center console face plate to where it would be impractical to use universal cd players without modifying or cutting up the cover.

i always shake my head and laugh when i read how someone's gain is "turned way up or down". dammit. the gain is not a volume control. check the incoming low-level voltage and set the gain properly.

^Thank god someone said it. It amazes me how EVERYONE thinks its a volume control and turns it up. All your getting is the same power...distorted and clipped.
