"Sept. 24, 2012
RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State's inaugural "Primetime With The Pack" basketball tip-off celebration event, set for Friday, Oct. 12, will be one of 14 program's featured on ESPNU's four hours of Midnight Madness coverage. It will be one of seven to have its festivities broadcast live in its entirety on ESPN3.

Sam Gore and former college coach Bruce Pearl will provide on-site analysis of the evening's events and highlights will be featured on ESPNU's whip-around coverage of midnight madness, which is in its seventh year.

The Wolfpack is one of eight teams in ESPN.com senior writer Andy Katz's preseason top 25 to be featured on ESPNU's coverage. Katz has NC State as the No. 6 team in the country entering the 2012-13 season.

The event is free to the public, with doors opening at 6 p.m. and the festivities beginning at 7 p.m. Additional details about "Primetime With The Pack" will be released at a future date. "

This is one of the HUGE benefits of Gottfried being an ESPN guy before he came here. Still has good connections.

This is really good for recruiting. Imagine pitching that to a kid "we're on ESPN dancing and having fun...that other school isnt...who you gonna run with?"

I have no idea, but I would think it'd be longer than 1 hour. That's just a guess though.

Did they play a full 4 quarters at the red white game last year?

Go early, go to the fair, eat a fired candy bar cheeseburger. then you can take a dump in the nice RBC restrooms.

also they say fireworks after. think they shoot those off at 9. there will be some skills comps before they play. 3 point contest etc..

http://blogs.fayobserver.com/accbasketball/September-2012/N-C--State-releases-its-Primetime-with-the-Pack-sc

Quote :
"Primetime with the Pack, the official tip-off event for the 2012-13 N.C. State basketball team, will be held Friday, Oct. 12, the same night as North Carolina's Late Night with Roy.

Parking and admission will be free at PNC Arena in Raleigh, with doors opening to the public at 6 p.m. and the event beginning at 7. Wolfpack fans will be introduced to this year’s squad and coaching staff via a grand entrance of fireworks, spotlights and music from a house DJ.

The event will be one of seven to be broadcast live in its entirety on ESPN3, with Sam Gore and former college coach Bruce Pearl providing on-site analysis. The other six schools are North Carolina, Kentucky, Syracuse, Missouri, Pitt and Florida State.

Highlights will be also featured as part of ESPNU’s four hours of midnight madness coverage. N.C. State is ranked No. 4 nationally in a preseason poll by the Blue Ribbon Basketball Preview and No. 6 by ESPN analyst Andy Katz.

“Primetime With The Pack will be an exciting way for our program to celebrate the start of the upcoming season with our fans,” coach Mark Gottfried said in a school release. “With ESPN3 and ESPNU’s coverage of the event, we can take the excitement of Wolfpack basketball to our fans, not only on a national level, but on a global one as well.”

One N.C. State fan will have an opportunity to win $50,000. The contestant, selected randomly, must make a layup, free throw, 3-pointer and halfcourt shot in 25 seconds to win the prize.

The Wolfpack will then showcase its long-range accuracy with team members competing in a 3-point contest. Each head-to-head round will last a minute, with the top two players advancing to the championship round.

There will also be an intrasquad scrimmage with pregame and game action conducted against a backdrop of music, highlight videos and emcee Kornelius “Korn” Bascombe interacting with the crowd.

A 45-minute autograph session with the players and coaches follows the scrimmage, concluding in time for the crowd to take in the Friday night fireworks show at the nearby North Carolina State Fair. As part of the evening’s festivities, there is a campout planned for N.C. State students at PNC Arena."

You're right, which is probably best. It'd probably be pretty boring to watch the entire thing on tv.

25 seconds good lord. I'm assuming you get unlimited balls or a rebounder, but you're still going to have to hit it in 4 or maybe 5-6 shots if you're able to speed through it.

Let's say you're a pretty good shooter and the following are reasonable odds...

99% layup
90% free throw
40% 3-pointer
7% halfcourt

So not accounting for nerves you're at 2.5% chance to win right there assuming you have to go 4/4.

I'd say the real odds are somewhere a little lower since I'm assuming no warmup shots.

And if you assume a random fan there's no way those percentages are even in the ballpark of what they will shoot.

More like

60% layup
25% free throw
5% 3 pointer
0.2% halfcourt.

$50,000 isn't a lot to put up for something so difficult.

Does anyone actually know the format of this thing? I know it starts at 7, but I've heard the scrimmage will be at midnight. Seems like a long ass time to wait. Also, this site says student camp out starts at 945. What the hell does that mean?

I was kinda thinking the scrimmage and all that would be over before the campout started. And once everyone clears out the students begin signing in or doing whatever they have to do.
