as a cop, i felt it was overly cliche with way too many glaring stupid plot points and police protocol that just would not happen in real life police work. not to mention cops acting like complete morons.

one of the things I was really annoyed by was the house with the bodies....you would not need to kick the door down to realize there was a body inside. if there were multiple rotting bodies inside you would smell that shit across the street. trust me.

Definitely the best movie I have seen so far this year. Though I expect some good ones to be released this fall.

^^^The house with the bodies had me annoyed also, because you sir are correct no need to kick the door open you would know as soon as you step out of your patrol car. But with that being said keeping in mind it's Hollywood and people think that is how we do our job. They would not pay to see us go to the same house over and over again for undisciplined juveniles/ones that do not want to go to school, or explain to a complainant the process of getting a DVPO and etc. From the Hollywood aspect great movie will see again and purchase, from the real life POV not so much.

I like how they bust a house with a human trafficking operation, but I do not recall observing them having any PC to justify them bursting into the house when the dude opens the door. Then the big bad feds show up and say "you ruined our case, blah blah blah leave the scene now", and the officers just leave. They didnt call a supervisor to the scene, CID never responded, they just leave.

I think they should make a movie about real police work, like responding to the same house over n over for a 10 year old who doesnt want to go to school, or telling the same abused woman over n over how to get a 50-B, or a barking dog complaint, or taking 30 reports in one neighborhood because no one locks their car doors at night, oh and of course the 10-96 commitments.

Yea I felt like I had missed something so I gave by buddy an elbow and asked what was the PC? He said not a clue. I could only imagine the shit-sandwich that would come from an incident like that whole segment from start to finish.

Haha just did that a few days ago I will never understand people. Along with that, what do you really want me to do about a barking dog...it's a dog...they bark, it will finally shut up. Or the people that complain about other people going to fast through the neighborhood but the first person you stop for speeding is...the initial complainant. I wish the job was as easy as the movies make it look. Anyway end rant way off topic.

Movie was good, acting was good I felt like Michael Peña and Jake Gyllenhaal meshed well with one another. Yea there were some overly cliche moments but at least I don't recall and doughnut jokes

I thought it was a good movie. Pretty funny at times. Showed to me (not being a cop of course) that a cop's job is hard.

Only thing I didn;t like was the formulaic part about the rookie cop - you knew from the moment you saw her that she was gonna get tossed in the meat grinder and end up hurt really bad or dead.

Ya know the part that really pissed me off the most. After they are ambushed, they show that Jake's radio is shot out of his hand, but why did his partner not have a radio on him? Any cop who isnt a complete moron wears his handheld on him at all times. They are forced to use a random persons cell phone to call dispatch.

Then, after they escape from the ladies apartment, Jake kills a dude in the hallway who has an AK47....but they just keep running. I mean seriously, PICK UP THE DAMN RIFLE AND USE IT. In that situation, it doesnt matter if its a department issued weapon or if you have technically qualified with it, just use it. They had already expended at least one magazine of ammo, and have a limited supply, so why the fuck not pick up some extra firepower in that situation.

Then, they get on the street and kill another gang member in a car, who was also armed but they did not take his weapon nor did they pull his fat ass out of the car and TAKE THE DAMN CAR. Drive the hell out of the danger zone, then wait for back up and establish a perimeter.

You raise a good question. I had completely forgot the fact that Michael’s character didn’t have a handheld, WTF is that about? That also being said I always have my public service with me that way if my radio decides to go 10-7 I can still get in touch with communications.

You are exactly right in a life or death situation like that who cares if you have not qualified with it. If I get suspended or terminated for it…hell at least I am still alive. I think anyone in our line of work would agree with that. You know Knarf you, Restricted, and I should write a screenplay based on real events.

i can see the reasoning both ways. survival mode, pick up the AK47. police officer mode, i am a trained marksman with my standard issue weapon. the likelihood of failure with it is 0%.

plot points aside this was a damn good movie that had me hooked from the opening scene. loved it.
