My wife wants to get a cheap bike just for riding short distances and something she can put a baby seat on. I have been scouring CL but can't find anything cheap ($25-$50 ish)

Is this just too cheap or is my only option at this price to crapshoot and go to random yard sales?

You could always volunteer some time to get a cheap/free bike at the Durham Bike Co-op.
