So the title of this thready is what a night of searching for a simple sound device for my halloween costume has led me to.


I just want a simple push-button device to play short, pre-recorded/uploaded sounds via battery.

Radio Shack has something bare bones, but it looks a bit fragile and requires some soldering. I have looked at customizable door chimes, hunting calls, and pre-programmed sound devices. All are either stupid expensive or too dumb/weak (ie. Keychains with siren sounds). How can there be dozens of remote control fart machines that are similar to the design I want with 20 different fart buttons, but nothing that allows you to put your own sounds on it?

may just end up doing a small mp3 player, but it would be ideal to have a devoted button for each sound... I won't be able to see shit or use 2 hands

If you wanna go cheap and could live with one sound, check out Hallmark. You can get those greeting cards that allow you to record your own message and then play it back. Trigger mechanism on this is pretty easy. They are loud enough, although you'd probably have to pick a pretty high-frequency fart sample. They don't exactly hit hard on the low end. I suppose you could also solder a larger low-impedance speaker to 'em

Otherwise a Bluetooth speker linked to your phone or a cheap MP3 player would work

Too clarify... I won't be using fart sounds. I want to add my own mp3, wav, etc files of monster growls and shit. I did look at greeting card or teddy bear devices, but I don't feel they are loud enough and I need to be able to trigger the sound via hand (isolated in a large fake arm) and have it come from chest or mouth of the costume.


Again, just may have to use a small mp3 player and some speakers.... the downside is not knowing what sound will be playing (what track am I on) since I can't see the mp3 player.

So buy something that functionally works and then spend an hour to solder in an amp to a louder speaker. Shouldn't cost but a few bucks and will get you what you're looking for

Doable, but just call me too lazy to do it.

My gripe is that there are no simple consumer devices for my purpose, but dozens to imitate farts

It is the only consumer device that comes close to being a general sound effect generating machine with simple dedicated buttons for each unique sound (with remote).

I guess the shirt with the speaker in it from thinkgeek is my best bet...

It will need to be hand triggered, but it will be too sweaty/clammy in the costume to use touch screen devices.
