From HD's article above...

Quote :
"4. Notre Dame defensive coordinator Bob Diaco: If Yow doesn’t scoop him up, somebody else likely will. In his third season as the coordinator for the Irish, Diaco has been the leader behind the nation’s No. 2 scoring defense. The Irish are No. 6 in the country in scoring defense, and Diaco is a big reason Notre Dame should be playing for the national title this year."

I just want someone who is mostly clean and great at getting talent in the door. I appreciate that TOB cleaned up a lot of the mess CTC left behind. But even though we were an undisciplined mess under CTC, we did have legit talent coming in every year. That hasn't been true for TOB. I want the next guy to recruit like CTC, run the program like TOB, and do Xs and Os like.... anyone other than those 2 guys

They are #6 in total defense and #2 in scoring defense. It's a typo.

#6 Overall Defense: http://www.ncaa.com/stats/football/fbs/current/team/1042/p1
#2 Scoring Defense: http://www.ncaa.com/stats/football/fbs/current/team/1043

If you're going to talk about coaching trees...

If this map included college coaching tenures, I think Tom O'Brien would be on it (somewhere in the Tom Coughlin branch, I can't remember if they were at BC at the same time).

Jimmy Johnson is only 69 years old

I figure he comes in, wins a few national titles, then goes and coaches the Panthers to a couple Super Bowl victories

Or...

this is completely irrelevant since TOB was at UVa as OC during the Coughlin tenure at BC and didn't come there until he replaced Coughlin.

He was a George Welsh protege.

The Bust a Nut Group:

Rex Ryan, Dirk Koetter, Kirby Smart, Mark Helfrich

Great, realistic choices:

Dave Doeren, Willie Taggart, Sonny Dykes

Fuck:

Chad Morris, any other east coast OC/DC, Skip Holtz, etc

^^^ sounds like Butch Jones may be heading to Kentucky so i left him off. He'd be in my middle tier group. The SJSU coach would be in my last group mainly because of him having 1 year of success and his previous job was the DC at Duke lol

uh, if clemson's OC is making $1.3 already then he'd want at least $2 million to come to State. Time to put the pipe down on that one.

ROMEO CRENNEL!

he would take our best offensive player and only give him 15 touches a game and then wonder why we lose.

Seriously, the belichick coaching tree is pretty awful.

You just cant win there. It's obv a baskeball only school (a la Duke). Football facilites blow also and you are in the toughest conference in the country. It's a career momentum killer for a coach

I don't give a damn. Keep the NCAA out of our ass, have real classes and win. After that I don't care who he does what with.

Quote :
"State appears to be in a better position to attract a good coach than some may think. Out of the four SEC teams also in the market none are bowl eligible and continuing their season, the Pack is. Of the four SEC teams looking for a coach all have a losing records this season, however State has a winning record and an opportunity to expand upon its winning record. Of the four SEC teams looking for a coach only Arkansas & Auburn had a winning record and a bowl win last year, State also had a winnin record and a bowl win as well. Note, Auburn just won a National Title 2 years before. If you look at the overall records over the past 3 years, including this year, Arkansas won 25 overall games and 1 bowl game, Auburn won 25 overall games, a NC & 1 other bowl game, State won 24 overall games and 2 bowl games (chance to win 1 more game to tie overall win total) and Tennessee won only 15 games and no bowl games (Kentucy doesn't even come close).

Coaches look at these numbers and the numbers don't lie. While we aren't in the SEC, State has the ability to provide an environment to win as many overall games as those other SEC teams, go to bowl games and win those too. It is not a situation where the numbers look horrible for the Pack. We have a 3 in a row season winning football program with a chance to go 3 bowl game wins in a row. You can win at State, TOB did it and a new coach with a modern day recruiting philosophy that Yow is seeking WILL see the amazing opportunities ripe for the taking at State...all that coach will need to do is win a couple more games a season, those TOB laid an egg on, and he will be sitting pretty coaching a 10 win, top 25 team with continual post season appearances. That is attractive to anyone, regardless of conferences...especially if you want to make a name for yourself and Yow will sell this!"

Mark Thomas tweeted Big Offense likely coming to NCSU. It may be because I like TOB, but a lot of these replacements are meh. Jones, Morris, Diaco just aren't the home run hire I would expect DY to get. Dykes, Doeren, and Smart are more of what I want to hear.

is Chip Kelly not the mastermind behind their offense?

he'll probably end up with an NFL job, just saying I didn't think one of their coordinator's is responsible for their up-tempo spread
