The Mets exercised options on David Wright and R.A. Dickey. Other than that, I don't know what else positive there will be to say about this team for a while.

Meet the Mets, meet the Mets, step right up and greet the Mets, Bring your kiddies, bring your wife, guaranteed to have the time of your life, because the Mets are really sock’in the ball, knocking those home runs over the wall, East side, West side, everybody coming down to meet the M-E-T-S Mets of New York town! O, the butcher and the baker and the lawyer and the clerk, Where did they go? To meet the Mets! All the fans are going crazy, and they're taking off from work, Where did they go? To meet the Mets! Everyone is true to the orange and blue. So hurry up and come on down. Cause we got ourselves a ballclub. The Mets of New York town. Give 'em a shout! Give 'em a hand! And let 'em know you're sitting in the stands! Meet the Mets, meet the Mets. Step right up and greet the Mets. Bring your kiddies, bring your wife. Guaranteed to have the time of your life. Because the Mets are really socking that ball. Hitting those home runs over the wa-a-a-all. East side, West side. Everybody's coming down. To meet the M-E-T-S Mets Of New York town!

I can't believe there is actually something to celebrate.

Quote :
"Two years after R.A. Dickey was the first player cut by the New York Mets in spring training, he now has a Cy Young Award on his résumé.

Dickey won the National League Cy Young on Wednesday, becoming the first knuckleballer to receive the honor.

Dickey, who went 20-6, received 27-of-32 first-place votes and 209 overall points in balloting by the Baseball Writers' Association of America."

Agree to terms with Wright.

@AdamRubinESPN: Confirmed: David Wright has the richest contract in Mets history. Will be worth just under $140 million, but more than Johan Santana's"

Looks like Dickey trade should be completed soon.

Great return if it includes d'Arnaud and Syndergaard.

But, wow is this 2013 team going to be pitiful. The outfield might be the worst I've ever seen, lol. Duda, Nieuwenhuis and Baxter. Ouch...

As much as I like RAD, I'd rather see this happen then us sign him to a big contract. You know he would go way downhill as soon as we did.

LOL, the Mets "prospect" going out was 29 year-old career minor leaguer Mike Nickeas, who they got straight up for Victor Diaz (who I imagine ate himself out of baseball years ago) way back when.

Good job Sandy. The "throw in" prospect we got back actually has upside but his trajectory was altered by a fastball to the cranium that broke his face.

Outside of signing Wright, who was already under team control, and dealing away Dickey, the Mets have busied themselves by making two small trades and inking an army of players to Minor League contracts."

Its actually smart. You dont go out and spend money on a season where you know your team is going to suck. Theyre waiting until santana comes off the books after this year etc. in the meantime they can accelerate their top propects to the bigs and see what they have in them. I'd consider their team this year as the AAAA team for 2014

No complaining here. They are doing things right. Reyes Jim-trade is the only error Alderson has made IMO.

Brian Wilson probably won't pitch as well as he used to, but it would be fun having his personality in the clubhouse during a lost season.

Quote :
"The Beard may be switching coasts.

Brian Wilson worked out privately for New York Mets general manager Sandy Alderson on Saturday in California, a baseball source told ESPNNewYork.com.

Wilson, 30, underwent Tommy John surgery last April after two early season appearances.

He has indicated he will be ready for Opening Day, although a major league source said the reliever is not yet able to demonstrate in workouts that he is back to pre-surgery form."

I love seeing him succeed even when it doesn't do anything for the team. He's my absolute favorite all time player and it just might kill me if/when he leaves the team next season.

As a Braves fan, I have always admired Wright as a player and a guy that does things the right way. Glad I can root for him on the US team because normally I just root against him and the rest of the Mess players.

^I always felt the same way about Chipper Jones. Hate the Braves with a fiery passion, but respect for a solid player who isn't a jackass about it.

Interesting article about Wright and Reyes http://espn.go.com/mlb/worldclassic2013/story/_/id/9051593/david-wright-jose-reyes-team-usa-dominican-republic-bragging-rights-matchup

I'm pretty sure Matt Harvey was a Tarheel, but damn I'm ok with him now. 1 hit in 7 innings, and that one hit he picked off at first.

Ike Davis 1-8 to start the season, but if the rest of the team keeps hitting like this who cares.

/gettingmyhopesup

Bullpen gave up 4 runs in the final 2 innings...if this had been a low-scoring game it would have ended miserably. I don't trust anyone in the 'pen with the ball.

Touched Halladay up for 7 runs in 4+ innings. Not bad.

Buck has continued his hot start to the season. It's been a while since the Mets have been able to get much production out of the catcher in the lineup.

Also, Harvey with 8 Ks through 6.1 innings. He's got a chance to become the first Mets pitcher to open the season with 2 with 2 straight games of 10+ Ks. (I'm guessing he's done after the 7th though, so he probably won't get that.

9 k's in 7 innings, still pretty damn good. More importantly, that ERA is .064, so I'm very happy with this guy.

I don't understand why the leadoff spot keeps changing. Cowgill had 4 starts and I three other guys have now had 1 each.

I've got a fever, and the only prescription is more Cowgill.

Matt Harvey is a stud. Can't wait for a 1-3 of Harvey, Neise and Wheeler.

Not caring about Buck since he will regress hard to the mean. D'Arnoud is the future but as long as JB hits the future can get his reps in the minors.

Not the pitcher's duel I was expecting...I didn't get to watch but was Strasburg off his game or is the Mets offense really that good?

Glad to see Ike Davis getting his swing back.

Gee was pitching a shutout but was still pulled after 5.2 innings. Thank goodness the bullpen actually pulled it out.

Buck hit another blast, took 2 of 3 from Washington.

D'Arnaud is out the next 8 weeks with a fractured foot, so trading Buck now would not do any good unless we got a low-cost veteran catcher as part of the deal.

Maybe by the trade deadline if D'Arnaud looks ready to move up then yes trade out Buck for another good pitcher or outfielder.
