Hey guys, a bike has just been stolen from me while I was at a TA meeting. I know that people don't normally look carefully at every single bike that passes them by, but I'd positively appreciate it if y'all could take a bit of energy to keep an eye out for it. It looks like this http://tiny.cc/ryyznw Here's another similar picture, though it looks almost exactly like the first link, this picture is a bit more clear in regards to the details on the bike's frame: http://tiny.cc/iyyznw. Thanks. I would offer a cash reward if I wasn't all out of money. All I can offer is extreme gratitude for the effort. Sorry if this post is out of place or not within typical TWW etiquette. I'm not a regular here, but I wanted to get the information out wherever I could. Thanks again. 11/18/2012 8:56:31 PM |

can i get a serial number or are you just tryin to goad some goodie two shoes into stealing a bike for you? also a fapiao would be nice.
stealing bikes from campuses is an entire industry. the police turn a blind eye because its a waste of their time. the thieves always get very low consequences despite having prior records. 11/19/2012 12:38:21 AM |

How difficult is it to steal a bike with a U-lock? Unless you've got a power tool, aren't those things pretty sturdy? There is no reason to have anything less than that. 11/19/2012 7:26:58 AM |

Bike thieves are going to go for the low hanging fruit, though, and as there will pretty much always be a bike around that doesn't have a u-lock on it, there's not much need to worry (plus it's much more conspicuous breaking a u-lock). I don't know many people who have had a bike stolen while parked with a u-lock.11/19/2012 9:55:56 AM |

Unfortunately, If you don't have the serial number then you have absolutely zero chance of ever recovering that bike given that it happened on a college campus, you don't seem to have pictures of it, and it doesn't sound like it has any distinguishable features/marks. 11/19/2012 10:20:26 AM |

Eh, I hate to say it, but you're unlikely to get your bike back. It's a Trek and you have no serial number. I'll look for it at the Durham co-op, but the chances are slim it will come up here.
This is why I have multiple bikes. If one gets stolen, I'm not out my main mode of transportation. 11/19/2012 4:41:10 PM |

Those are just examples of what the bike model looks like, not actual pictures of the bike that was stolen. 11/19/2012 7:56:01 PM |

Sorry, been busy with exams. Apparently people didn't read the original post...
It's exactly what The Coz said... The pictures are only a picture of the model of the bike. I don't have a picture of the exact bike, but it resembles the first picture almost exactly. The second picture is only there for reference of what the patterning on the side looks like...
I do have a serial, I gave it to the officer in the report I filed, and they entered it into the inventory/database. I don't see how it would be beneficial for anyone keeping an eye out for the bike to have the serial on hand... I'm not entirely familiar with a fapiao, but I don't think I have one from what I google'd. I'm just asking y'all to keep an eye out. Probably should have known better. 11/20/2012 2:00:41 PM |

it doesn't have brakes. HOW ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO STOP??? 1/2/2015 10:10:40 AM |

pedal backwards like on your old kid bikes back in the day.
or dig your shoes into the ground. I got many holes in my shoes doing that when my brakes weren't working on my bike in elementary school.
