it's more portable than speakers attached to your wall, but it's hardly put-it-in-your-pocket portable...for what it is, $120 will buy you a lot of features and some serious sound

anyone ever tried to stream from one device (like a phone) to multiple speaker units? my 2.1 soundbar has BT 4.0 with NFC and supports aptX and i thought it'd be nice to get a portable speaker (something smaller than the block rocker) to put on the back deck and stream to both that and the soundbar

i know the UE Boom allows for multiple streaming, but the way it reads in the manual is streaming between 2 UE Booms. Not sure how/if it crosses with other BT audio devices.

I've had the Bose Soundlink for a year or two now. It's pretty tight. It follows me everywhere I go. I cook breakfast with it playing, I carry it into the bathroom when I'm showering, it hangs out in my home office all day, and I usually go to bed listening to it. I listen to it on the dock, I carry it on the pontoon boat, I've used it camping on the beach, I take it on the deck when I'm grilling, etc.

I like it.

I know that was a really comprehensive and helpful review, but I'll summarize by saying that I've been happy with it since day 1 and I haven't seen anything in the last year and a half that made me wish I had gone with another brand or model.

i got this during their last $20 deal and it's on par with any of the "high end" speakers of the same size: http://slickdeals.net/f/7095134-arctic-nfc-bluetooth-4-0-stereo-speaker-with-aac-aptx-built-in-microphone-s113bt-available-in-lime-orange-pink-and-white-19-99-ac-fs-newegg-com

2x3W speakers, bluetooth 4.0, NFC, AAC/aptX and the reviews are great

I was planning on doing some research on portable speakers and getting something soon, but wifey beat me to the punch and got me the Motorola Deck for my birthday:

Don't have anything to compare it to, but it's been pretty awesome so far. We've taken it to the beach several times and she uses it around the house when doing chores and yardwork. Battery life is ridiculous (we used it consistently for two weeks before having to charge it) and the sound is pretty good on the beach. Has a Bluetooth option up to five people can have access to it at one time. Has good range as well...says 300 feet...which we haven't tried, but we've had it outside in the yard while being in the 2nd floor of the house and nothing has changed.

I don't think I would have even looked at Motorola had I been searching myself, but I've been pretty happy with this one.

blue was the deal a week or two ago...looks like this time it's pink, lime green, orange, and white...black will likely never go on sale

This is much smaller and less capable than what most of you guys are posting, but I wanted something very small and portable so I picked up this little BEM cube speaker and have been really happy with the performance and battery life. I got it at Costco for $40 several months ago, but they're available all over the place.

I feel like I've seen an advertisement for a bluetooth speaker that up to 5 people can connect to at once, and then trade off who's playing music without having to disconnect and pair a new phone each time.

I just can't remember the name

i'd find far more value in (affordable) BT speakers that could connect to each other (letting you create your own quasi-surround sound) than letting multiple people connect to the same speaker

^to supplment my post above, those same type of compact speakers are available in a triple-docking station package. Pretty cool, acts as a charging dock and broadcasting station to put the speakers in different locations. 120' range/radius, apparently. I may end up getting this before too long.

Picked up a Bose soundlink mini today. Liking it so far. I just worry about the battery life with these portable speakers. Not run time, but how many years of use I'll get. It seems though that the battery might be swappable on the mini.

Just got a refurb Harman/kardon Onyx for $100 off ebay...outstanding speaker. Great bass response. Probably a 4 hourish battery life but I'll take that hit with this performance. Bose Soundlink Mini coming in tomorrow. Hopefully I'm done buying speakers for a while

I have 3 now...don't really use the first one because the batteries don't last as long (calls for Ds, I use AAA rechargeables) and it's freaking huge.

Recently, I really should have just got the Soundlink, and maybe I'll end up selling the Onyx.

I use them when I'm working outside and in the kitchen mainly

I've had the soundlink mini now for about 2 months, and we love it. I wish the battery lasted a little longer at louder volumes, but I'm thinking maybe it was because I got a refurbed unit at the outlet in Smiffield. I may take it back and get a new one.

It is certainly loud enough to fill a room full of sound, and it sounds great at loud volumes. It does well outside too.

2-3 hours at its near-loudest. Bose will tell you that is about normal, but I feel like I should be getting longer times out of it.

We let my daughter listen to a lot of kiddy songs, and we don't crank it up for her, so it should be lasting longer, in my opinion. But I still love it. I don't know if that 2-3 hour runtime is in line with other high end portable speakers, but I would still buy it even if all I could get was 2-3 hours.

And it isn't like I listen to music for more than that, maybe some folks do, so it is always available when I need it.

I brought it in to work one day, and a buddy of mine was so impressed he went to go get one that day, then ended up getting a soundlink 3 instead, which I think is $100 more...too much for my blood, but he really likes it too.

I've been using my Harmon Kardon Onyx a bunch recently...very impressed. Excellent sound quality, great bass. Battery life seems strong thus far. Had it outside yesterday for 4+ hours with the volume at 80%-90% (my neighbors love me). Can be had for $100 refurb/used off ebay.

If anyone's interested, the UE Miniboom is on sale for $60. It gets really good reviews and is recommended on most of the lists I've seen.

I came to recommend the UE Megaboom. Just got it a few weeks ago and it is head and shoulders above any bluetooth speaker I've heard.

The original Boom and Mini Boom (if you want more portability) are supposed to be really good as well.

I did a lot of reading online before I went with the Megaboom. Almost every website I found had it or the Boom as top 3, if not the best in their "roundup" or whatever.

UE Boom sounds great. Loud enough to take over our space at a crowded Wrightsville Beach and drown out almost everything around us. Battery drains faster on full volume, but that's not uncommon.

UE Mini Boom is a good option and very portable. My group had one of each this past weekend. But in comparison the sound is really lacking compared to it's bigger brother. But for $60 it's a worthy purchase for sure. Also you can get two and link them and create an even better sound field.
