Not to mention, a game against a good power 5 team that's NOT shuffling a coach out and treating it like a scrimmage, on national TV, unopposed by other games, that's another big showcase. It only helps seeing your team play established names like Oregon instead of never-weres like Vandy or Kentucky. It shows you're in their class, that you are competing with the Louisvilles and FSUs behind Clemson, not just staying ahead of Syracuse and BC.

I wonder why no one responded when i talked about this 2 days ago. Living in the future sucks.

Quote :
"Doeren isn't showing up on anyone's short list but is showing up on a lot of people's long list. Keep an eye on boards as the coaching carousel dominoes start to fall. Tennessee didn't come calling, and I think we are generally safe, but now we have to think about Misssissippi State taking someone elses coach and Nebraska looms large still...
[quote]Head coaching record: 55-34

2017 total pay: $2.21 million

Why it’s a fit: The Shawnee, Kansas, native is a Drake football graduate and a Midwestern guy coaching in the ACC. He did well in two years at Northern Illinois following Jerry Kill before heading to NC State where, over the course of five years, he’s built a sustainable program. The Wolfpack’s offense has averaged 30 points three of the last four years, and Doeren’s four years as a defensive assistant at Wisconsin gives him some Big Ten credentials.

One question: Why leave the Wolfpack when it’s just getting good? NC State’s next two or three years could be special."

Its interesting to see how the people on the Nebraska board are talking about him

Quote :
"I think this guy should be in the mix."

Quote :
"He's great. My gut is he won't leave NC State for Nebraska, at this point...just call it a hunch, but I'd take him"

Quote :
"He is building a hell of a program at NC State. Nothing but respect for him. If he has a passion for Nebraska football (given that we don't get Frost after Riley), then definitely throw him in the mix. If he doesn't, as Mike Ditka always said, "Next!""

Quote :
"He was on the "hot seat" before the season. He's having a good season (the previous few, not so much) and is a decent coach overall. I just think we should have better options than him even if Nebraska isn't a premier job right now. A lot of our fans would have to "google" him to even know who he is. We just got done doing that 3 years ago."

Quote :
" This guy is doing some great things at a hell hole is only 37 years old. He's also making less than 2 million a year I believe. He's already coaching in the area too, so no BS about would he fit."

Didn't Doeren say he took this job to go fly fishing near Asheville?

I think this may be his dream job. I mean, if he fails, he can still take a job at Western or App or Mars Hill and be made for life.

^Sounds like that got shot down quickly. That one dude on twitter that is the main insider for UT's 247 site is just awful, constantly wrong.

Saying now that negotiations haven't even started but just opening discussions about the position. Sounds like Brohm is interested but they still have a long way to go before coming to an agreement on compensation and such.

Tennessee will soon announce the hiring of Purdue coach Jeff Brohm after going 6-6 this year. Brohm was 30-10 at Western Kentucky. Buyout is $5 million, drops to $4 million Dec 5. Still owes Purdue about $750k for leaving WKY.

Yeah there is a real risk here of getting a Paul Hewitt style deal where you lock in for way to long and too much after only one good season followed by a bunch of mediocre ones.

I was thinking more about the economic atmosphere here. Yow is less likely to do this than most but the market forces are pushing things this way with so many aggressive coaching vacancies this early.

Supposedly talking to Tennessee. I say just make drink the head coach and try to keep the staff intact for recruiting and let the new AD make a hire if it doesn't work out.
