Quote :
" MTV is hoping to hit pay dirt (mud?) several hundred miles southwest of New Jersey with Buckwild, a new reality series about nine young-adult friends in small-town West Virginia who say they are living by the motto, “Whatever happens, happens.” And what seems to be happening is a lot of riding down hills inside giant tires, driving trucks dangerously through mud, tearing up the trails on ATVs and motorcycles, drinking, body licking, fighting with neighbors, and doing Jackass-y stunts that sometimes involve construction equipment. But don’t worry, there’s a heartfelt side to all of this ruckus, as you will see in this two-minute trailer, when one guy gives flowers to a girl he’s sweet on."

wat?

They describe driving a full sized off-roading truck in an open muddy field as being dangerous? Yet they don't add a similar adjective to an activity that's actually more risky like dirt biking at full speed without helmets?

Shain died

http://www.wchstv.com/newsroom/eyewitness/130401_15039.shtml

Quote :
"Three people were found dead Monday in the Sissonville area in a vehicle, including "Buckwild" cast member Shain Gandee, Kanawha County Commissioner Kent Carper said.

Family members and emergency personnel at the scene also said Shain Gandee was found in the vehicle dead along with his uncle, David. The two men had been reported missing for about 31 hours. The name of the other person who was found in the vehicle was unavailable.

A person on a four-wheeler discovered three unresponsive people in a vehicle Monday morning. Emergency responders converged in the Wolf Pen Road area in Sissonville after reports that a vehicle had been discovered.

David and Shain Gandee last told people they were going four-wheeling in a sport utility vehicle. They were reported missing overnight, according to a news release from the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office.

Shain and David Gandee were last seen at Larry’s Bar in Sissonville about 3 a.m. Sunday. The release said the two men said they were going four-wheeling in Shain Gandee’s Ford Bronco. No one knows where they planned to ride, or the direction in which they left.

Neither is known to have contacted any family members since that time. Family members spent most of Sunday trying to locate or contact the two men before calling 911 to report them missing.

Both of the mising men are from the Sissonville area, have taken vehicles off-road all over Sissonville and throughout other parts of Kanawha County.

David Gandee is 48 years old, about 6 feet tall and weighs 225 pounds. He is a white male with green eyes and brown hair. Shain Gandee is 21 years old, about 6 feet tall and weighs 180 pounds. He is a white male with brown eyes and brown hair.

They were last known to be in Shain Gandee’s vehicle, a 1984 Ford Bronco with oversized tires. The bronco is red and white in color. The West Virginia license plate number is 3UD308.

seriously? I dont know if you clicked the link, but I highly doubt a news station would fabricate a story about someones death as an April Fools joke

seems this show would be much more interesting if they had documented the group's reaction to and changes based on these deaths. but that would be an actual documentary on a real situation. as opposed to reality tv as we know it today.

something tells me the Real World productions of the early 90s wouldn't have been cancelled if there had been a similar situation.

probably true

i'm guessing MTV has got to feel at least a little bit responsible for encouraging their stupid activities.

I think MTV could have gone that approach with going through how the cast dealt with the passing of Shain, but at the same time, that's not really what this show was about, so wouldn't fit it at all. I wish they'd show what they did film of the 2nd season, but if it's a show entirely based on a bunch of 20-22 year old kids partying and not caring about anything, kinda hard to then make half the show really somber.

Though I wouldn't be surprised if those kids threw a massive party in Shain's honor.

Shain and Cara forever!
