New season...very excited.

Let's talk about Rory McIlroy to Nike for somewhere between $200mil and $250mil for 10 years...just sick.

Phil Mickelson might be retiring. This is what happens when you tax the rich at a ridiculous rate. He'll obviously be rich no matter what so that's not really a concern, but taking over half of his earnings is a bit ridiculous. When the big earners are taxed at a rate too high they either stop innovating/doing whatever they do great and/or they find somewhere else to do it. Well at least we can all sleep better at night knowing he paid his "fair share". Well shit, there go the major job creators. He's obviously not a major job creator, but the same principle applies to business leaders. It's kind of the same idea as NAFTA. If you can do it somewhere else cheaper and keep more profit, you'll go there. That really helped the middle class. Sorry for the soap box rant, here's the article.

Anyone a "member" at Lonnie Poole? Looking to schedule 2 or 3 foursomes for Good Friday and would like to do so before the public option of 7 days out if anyone can help.

Tim Clark advances to sweet sixteen of Accenture Match Play. Carl Petterson defeated Rickie Fowler but is currently 4 down after 9 to Shane Lowry.

^ I would call. Most courses with Bent greens have punched their greens the last 3 weeks. Ask them if they have aerated and when, with the current weather it would be 3-4 weeks before they are back to being good again.

I need to look into playing again sometime, where would be the best place to go in the Raleigh area for someone who is terrible that isnt expensive. I get annoyed at extremely busy places when everyone else is decent and it takes me 10-12 shots on most holes and I end up holding people up. It also doesnt help that most people seem to just ya know kick their ball back onto the fairway where as I like to at least attempt to play by the rules.

Not to be a dick, but until you're able to hit shots well enough to average no more than double or triple bogey per hole, the driving range should be your only source of golf.

^^Knights Play would be good for you. They have a full driving range and an 18 and 9 hole par 3 course. You can also play at night which is fun.

\/ well said

way to be a dick.

Enjoy golf...go out and score terribly as long as you're having fun.

Who cares what you score if you enjoy the time chasing the round ball.

If you're going to be terrible at least play terrible at a decent pace. If you're holding people up let them play through or pick up and keep moving.

lol at dammit.

Anyone who gives a crap what you score on a golf course when not in a tournament should be banned from golf. Follow Golf etiquette(no more than 8 strokes per hole and play at a pace where you're ready to hit your ball when its your turn) and you'll be just fine. If there is a group playing faster than you behind you, let them play through.

Knights Play would be a good place to start though...thats where I started in college. Fantastic course, challenging yet fun.

that's pretty much my point. If you're hitting ~10-12 shots/hole, odds are it's going to take a while.

Also, ncstatetke 90 is bogey golf on a 72, so closer to 120 would be what I was talking about.

I generally pickup at 10 shots. I guess knights play would be a good option as the holes are shorter and would give me more chances to work on short/medium shots which is a lot of where my problems were. The ole out of the sand trap over the green into the other sand trap sorta thing.

tip for getting out of greenside bunkers: use a SW or lob wedge, lay the face open, aim left (assuming you're righty) of the target. Pretend the ball is sitting on the face of a dollar bill, and you want the club to make contact w/the sand at the edge of the dollar bill behind the ball.

I know how to do it executing is the problem haha. Mostly just from lack of playing regularly. Usually I just either hit the ball square accidentally and it rockets out or I hit the sand way to square and the ball barely moves.

My wife and I just joined the Fred Smith Co courses. We got the Platinum membership as they are running a special with no initiation fee and $200 gift card to the pro shops. We thought it was pretty reasonably priced for unlimited golf at 4 courses (Hedingham, Eagle Ridge, Riverwood, and Olde Liberty) with no cart fees or play restrictions.

^^how so? Its a douchebag thing to do to judge someone based on their golf score out on a golf course when there are people that play at all different kinds of levels. If you are only allowed to play a game when you are "good" nobody would ever become good. If you want to go out on the course and judge someone in the group ahead of you because they aren't playing on your level, I think you are a douchebag. Just my opinion.

think of it like a game of pick up basketball. No one wants to play with the guy who can't shoot, cant make or catch a pass, can't dribble, and is slow as shit.

If you're hitting the ball cleanly it's too far back in your stance. Play it way up in your stance. To keep from not moving the ball, make sure to make a full follow through. It's the sand that moves the ball, not the club. If you don't make a full follow through you're not going to impart enough force to the ball through the sand. I know it's hard to trust that will happen and you instinctively adjust your swing so you hit closer to the ball, but you gotta believe. Just finish that follow through.

^^ you're not playing with them, you're playing around them, they're on the other court so to speak.

as long as he's letting people play through and not holding up pace of play, and not tearing up the course, outside of that you can play golf like kick ball for all i care.
