http://cities.barna.org/americas-most-and-least-bible-minded-cities/

It's no surprise that TN has two of the top 3 with Knoxville on top. The way they lumped cities together though is a little odd though.

I'm surprised to see Charlotte, Asheville, and the triangle area as more religious than eastern NC and all of Texas.

MA, NY, and New England in general seem to be the least bible-minded.

I live in Asheville... It's mostly Baptists and hippies/eclectics. Mind you, most hippies are actually very religious.

Tons of progressive Christians in Asheville area, helps that you have progressive Christian colleges nearby.

Quote :
" Individuals who report reading the Bible in a typical week and who strongly assert the Bible is accurate in the principles it teaches are considered to be Bible-minded. This definition captures action and attitude—those who both engage and esteem the Christian scriptures. The rankings thus reflect an overall openness or resistance to the Bible in the country’s largest markets."

Quote :
"Top Cities

Regionally, the South still qualifies as the most Bible-minded."

Quote :
"Least Bible-Minded Cities

The least Bible-oriented markets include a mix of regions, but tend to be from the New England area. "

Quote :
"Generally speaking, the more densely populated areas tend to be less Bible oriented."

^I disagree, findings like these are groundbreaking.

"ARIZONA: Republicans Introduce Bill Demanding "So Help Me God" Loyalty Oath For High School Graduation"

"Arizona Business Journal notes:

"Jehovah’s witnesses, some Muslims and pacifist Quakers have in the past challenged loyalty oaths imposed by the federal government and other agencies, saying they conflict with their beliefs and religious professions. Similarly, some Arizona students could challenge the proposed high school oath as a violation of their religious liberties and freedom of expression.""

Perhaps its a Catholic thing (referring to areas like Texas border regions, New Mexico and Saint Louis)? I'm certain Catholics believe in the Bible and all, but the depending on the way the question is worded, it could have language very strongly biased toward evangelical protestants.

May also explain more old school Lutherans around the upper midwest.

There seems to be some overlap in this poll with that "bible-mindedness" poll unsurprisingly with New England being the least religious and the south being pretty religious.

"The states with proportionally larger LGBT populations generally have supportive LGBT legal climates. With the exception of South Dakota, all of the states that have LGBT populations of at least 4% have laws that prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity and allow same-sex couples to marry, enter into a civil union, or register as domestic partners."

Not surprising that there are "more" lgbt people in places where it's safer to say you're gay. I wonder how much correlation this has with the other polls in this thread. Again, New England seems to be high on the list.
