I'm an avid Cub fan/Card hater, but it still sucks about Carpenter. Guy had a legit shot at the HOF if not for his recent injury woes. Sox are actually tolerable with Ventura at the helm. Who finishes dead last in the NL? Mets or Cubs? 2/5/2013 10:28:10 PM |

Who is the transvestite holding up McKeon in that picture?
Also go Braves, fuck the Phils and Nats. Should be a good year across the board as all divisions should have competitive races. New wild card format still sucks... 2/6/2013 7:35:54 AM |

Also, one of the "moneyball" data analysis guys for the Astros lives in my building. Hung a tv for him and his wife and he let me hold his World Series ring from his time At the cardinals... Pretty neat. 2/6/2013 7:51:44 AM |

^ Just realized Ozzie was even in that picture. I was talking about the Beltre looking dude wearing lipstick.
So who are your picks in each division? I'll make my half assed, not researched predictions:
AL East - Blue Jays AL Central - Tigers AL West - Angels Wildcard #1 - Yanks Wildcard #2 - Rangers
NL East - Natspos NL Central - Reds NL West - Giants Wildcard #1 - Braves Wildcard #2 - Cards
Lame NL picks as they are the same as last years playoff teams. Lame picks overall really... 2/7/2013 7:32:32 AM |

ALW - Angels ALE - Rays ALC - Tigers WC1 - A's WC2 - Blue Jays/Rangers
NLE - Nats NLC - Reds NLW - Dodgers WC1 - Giants WC2 - Braves/Cards
Then again I haven't really seen rosters except the Braves and Nats. I think the Yankees could be really bad. Them and Boston as bottom dwellers in the east

Better predictions will come after spring training and looking at rosters other than Atlanta, Washington, and Baltimore's, but half-assed prediction are always fun.
AL East: Blue Jays AL Central: Tigers AL West: Angels AL WC1: Rangers AL WC2: Orioles AL DFL: Astros. If anyone is within 5 games of them, they need to join Houston in going to AAA. New unis are cool tho.
NL East: Nationals NL Central: Redlegs NL West: Dodgers NL WC1: Cardinals NL WC2: Giants NL DFL: Rockies. Cubs might give it a go without getting to play the 'stros 18x a year.
I think the NL West is going to be sneaky good this year. Padres had a pretty good record in the second half last year -- really good for them, actually -- and Colorado has CarGo and Tulo. Should be fun to watch. Love having baseball on at 11pm on a random weeknight to stay up watching. 2/7/2013 8:52:06 AM |

I forgot all about the Dodgers and their insane spending frenzy. I'd put them in over the Braves or Cards for at least a WC spot assuming they stay reasonably healthy this year.
Orioles are not making the playoffs this year and I think the Rays will fizzle out as the Yanks do whatever it takes to make the postseason. Blue Jays have no excuses this year. 2/7/2013 11:41:33 AM |

Yeah pretty much all MLB salaries are out of control, but Fowler did have a decent stretch of 50 games or so where he was lighting it up. Still can't believe Fat Felix got a deal worth nearly $200 large. WTF??
LOL too at the projections for the Astros this year. Pretty much every model has them losing at least 105 games. They are the Charlotte Bobcats of baseball. 2/18/2013 3:57:29 PM |

rflong All American 11472 Posts user info edit post |
I just think the Mariners overpaid for Felix. Granted that is the norm and even less established pitchers like Grienke are making $texas too. Felix is 27, is out of shape, and now may have elbow issues. Just too risky in my opinion for a huge long term contract.
If the Tigers pony up $200 M over say 7 years for Verlander, they'll likely be regretting it once he hits 35 or so. He's 30 now and has been unbelievable the past two seasons, but still age catches up to everyone and he has logged an ass of innings.
As for Kershaw, he's probably the pitcher most worthy of a fat contract like that since he's only 25 and has already put up seasons on par with Verlander and Felix.

Felix's fastball velocity has also dropped in each of the last five years. That's a pretty telling sign.

anyone looking to join a keeper league?
We've been going for 5 years with only 1 member change (this year). If you want to play, please be committed.
The keeper rules are you can keep any player that is undrafted or drafted after round 10. From that point on you can either decide to keep that player or follow the rules mentioned above.
As a new league manager, you would be allowed to select any player outside of the yahoo top 100 to be your keeper.
It's a really fun league and very active. Lots of smack talk and DROD and Slave Famous are in the league along with a lot of other NCSU alums.
It is H2H 8x8, live draft is sunday @5:45
PM me
