Already making moves to win this year. Definitely needed the infield depth:

Another magical victorious AL West season???

Beat me to it! I did '11 and '12

What do you think about trading Carter? I'm not so sure...

You're probably right... bet Beane is hedging his bets that either Lowrie or Nakajima has a breakout offensive season. Will miss Carter a lot though, you just knew that shit was going out when he made halfway decent contact. He will have tremendous long ball success in Houston - too bad they are now division rivals!

Hope to see the A's doing the Bernie lots more this year.

Not a fan of trading Carter, I never understood why the last few weeks of the season and the playoffs he never got to play. Maybe he is damaged goods.

interesting 'contingency planning' theory as the new MoneyBall approach while LAA and TEX begin to spend as much or more than even NYY or BOS. Not sure if I am buying it yet...

Anderson with 5Ks already

Would be nice if the A's could score some runs and win on opening day for once though...

Straily was studly last night with 11 K's and he still got sent down to the minors

Not sure about the Colon move, he may not be as good without his roids from last year.

^other than two pitches left hanging over the plate, colon looked pretty solid on saturday.

more importantly, after one week of baseball - beane's offseason moves look pretty good:
Lowrie > Carter
acquiring C. Young ++
keeping C. Crisp ++
acquiring H. Nakajima ????

9-5 win over LAA to ruin their opening night, 6 game win streak, and 6-2 so far. GREAT season so far

picking up Jaso definitely seems to be yet another sneaky good move by Beane.
Also glad he stuck with Moss (despite groanings of baseball analysts).

Parker's pitch location isn't as sharp as last year though - concerning...

A's humiliating LAA's bullpen right now, up 11-4 in the 7th. I thought LAA was supposed to be good and stuff.

A's leading 5-1 in the 6th

Are the Angels just a bad team or are the A's THAT good this year...?

The statistics speak for themselves, Beane's system seems to be finding consistency:

what network do you follow for baseball coverage do you watch in CA?

I am getting sooo tired of ESPN crying about how bad the Angels are and not saying much at all about how great the A's are....

CSN West

It's great coverage tbh, although Comcast in general is horrid. Sorta makes up for all the other games I'm forced to watch on the firstrow.eu

It sucked losing Jaso because down the stretch he was our most "consistent" hitter, but I think Morse will be just fine.

Just wish we could start hitting HRs also with the other team.

The Mariners actually aren't half bad. Lots of individual parts, but not a cohesive, consistent, winning team yet.

Teams like that are painful to watch though. I would know, because I've seen the A's be like that up until the All-Star break last year where they got it together and started winning.

yea, looks like a precautionary DL placement for Cespy. The rest of our offense is hitting on all cylinders right now (minus facing Verlander) - so why risk our best hitter?

yeah, plus the schedule is actually pretty easy the next few games, aside from the series @ Boston. Not too worried about TB/LAA/BAL.

Kind of crazy that Oakland is so competitive like San Francisco, but have such a luke warm at best fan base. They could learn a lot from the unbridled enthusiasm and loyalty shown by Giant fans.

I went to the A's third home game this year (vs. Seattle) and while the attendance was pitiful (the official number ~15k was generous), the fans that were there were probably the most supportive I've seen of the dozen or so stadiums I've been to. Very loud, knew the players on both sides, wore the colors and stuck it out for the whole game even though it got pretty chilly at the end and they know there'd be traffic/mass transit congestion at the end since the Warriors also had a home game.

the diehards are a small, but vocal bunch

i try to make as many games as i can, schedule permitting, but the old-timers are really dedicated

considering how shitty of a venue it is and that it's usually windy and cold, i think it's impressive that some people are there every night

but unless it's a sunny afternoon, most people would rather watch it at home or in a bar, since it's just not that pleasant to freeze your ass off for four hours, even when you have the best record in the AL... couple that with a total prick of an owner who wants to sell the team, it's really not that surprising when you think about it

and the Giants and their fans can eat a gigantic dick.

pretty crappy way to waste away that amazing start to the season- but still plenty to look forward to. Seems like the A's are always streaky hot or cold.

Remember last year?
As of July 4th, 2012 - the A's were just 39-42 and were 11.5 games back in the AL West. Need to somehow salvage a split with Baltimore and re-find the magic...
