Join the North Carolina Student Power Union’s statewide student organizing conference on Saturday February 16, 2013!" |
Quote : | "The North Carolina Student Power Union will be holding a statewide student organizing conference titled "Retaking Our Schools, Remaking Society" on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at North Carolina State University in Raleigh in Riddick Hall, room 301.
This conference will bring together leaders of social justice organizations, university faculty, and most importantly, students like us for a day of education, inspiration, and action. We will discuss how we can best resist upcoming attacks on education and our communities and continue to build the movement for social justice in NC.There will also be skills workshops and opportunities to network with student organizers from across NC." |
Quote : | " Their program is clear: public education and services will face massive cuts, and the general welfare of our state will be undermined to benefit the richest few. From voting rights to women’s rights, those in power want to take us backwards. North Carolina families, students, and workers cannot afford this regressive agenda – and we will not accept it. It is more urgent than ever to build upon multi-issue, grassroots mobilization efforts in NC. Our state has a rich history of activism and resistance, and as in the past, students must serve as leaders in the fight for social justice. The time for organizing a powerful student movement is now!" |

Riddick Hall is located at 2401 Stinson Drive. There are many lots and parking located near Riddick Hall. We’ll also have volunteers out on Saturday helping to direct folks to Riddick Hall. If you have any trouble finding Riddick or parking on Saturday, please call 919-727-9223.
Any NCSU parking that is not specifically marked as having a 24 hour permit requirement is free on Saturdays. All parking on Hillsborough Street is free as well, and it is a short walk from Hillsborough to Riddick Hall." |
I know some folks who are going to this. I figured I'd share in case anyone is interested and since it's a statewide event happening on our campus. You can go for free, but they're also asking for donations to help cover the costs.2/15/2013 9:48:03 AM |

^Explains why NCSU uses so much red.
Here's a facebook event for it. I think you can register online in advance, or just show up before 10am and sign in then. http://www.facebook.com/events/490024744374433/
Here's a pic of the Student Power Union at HKonJ last weekend. This conference is open to everyone though, a good percentage of the folks in attendance will be graduated adults, although I still expect it to be a mostly under 35 crowd.

where in the constitution is education a RIGHT? where does it say by law that it has to be GOVERNMENT education and not education from a lean, mean, efficient, smart private school instead of a garbage post office-like school?
im sure every one of those kids is in one of the many marxist classes on campuses everywhere. this is why im glad i didn't go to NC STATE. not until it is private and run not by marx but by businesses who know how to do it right.

Quote : | "Statement of Mission
The University of North Carolina is a public, multi-campus university dedicated to the service of North Carolina and its people. It encompasses the 16 diverse constituent institutions and other educational, research, and public service organizations. Each shares in the overall mission of the University. That mission is to discover, create, transmit, and apply knowledge to address the needs of individuals and society. This mission is accomplished through instruction, which communicates the knowledge and values and imparts the skills necessary for individuals to lead responsible, productive, and personally satisfying lives; through research, scholarship, and creative activities, which advance knowledge and enhance the educational process; and through public service, which contributes to the solution of societal problems and enriches the quality of life in the State. In the fulfillment of this mission, the University shall seek an efficient use of available resources to ensure the highest quality in its service to the citizens of the State.
Teaching and learning constitute the primary service that the University renders to society. Teaching, or instruction, is the primary responsibility of each of the constituent institutions. The relative importance of research and public service, which enhance teaching and learning, varies among the constituent institutions, depending on their overall missions.

No where in that does it say we have to pay for it. It also just says they have to do something to make sure they exist, not that they have to be GOVERNMENT schools where these students FORCE people to PAY for them to use it. 2/16/2013 5:02:35 PM |
