I can hardly believe something like this is happening. There can be no equivalent Democratic governing instance to compare with this. 2/23/2013 1:14:58 PM |

of course, because the Rethugs hate freedom and self-determination, and the surprising thing is that Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, and Pennsylvania haven't fallen to the same fate 2/23/2013 3:22:53 PM |

Detroit is put under the management of state government. 45% of Michigan blacks live in Detroit and now do not have local elections." She packs a lot of questionable racial rhetoric in there, and overlooks the disastrous decisions of? Detroit's corrupt and incompetent city leaders." |

Well, Detroit is an absolute shithole. If Detroit continues where it is headed, it will be bankrupt, and then expect a bailout.
As drastic as this is, and without knowing all the details, this is 'likely' a necessary action. 2/25/2013 12:57:54 PM |

Detroit is pretty hosed. I'm willing to reserve judgment as long as other state and federal elections aren't affected. 2/25/2013 2:54:59 PM |

Obviously. Look at the Federal government and the spending we have there without revenue to back it up.
So what is your solution? More federal bailouts? Status quo and just let them go bankrupt? Then what? Detroit is imploding from within and the elected officials there don't have the balls to tackle this, so it has to come from somewhere else. Nobody else has supplied a better solution at this time.2/25/2013 3:04:33 PM |

Well, as to the authority of Detroit, as am I no lawyer and could be completely wrong, that power generally is the state, and the localities are subject to the state. The same way North Carolina, I believe (correct me if I am wrong), stepped in and took over the Northhampton County school system. I think the state is generally free to do what it wants.
As to the bill, I don't have enough details to know if the law was changed enough to give the governor some leeway in proposing new legislation when the former law was struck down. 2/25/2013 4:53:57 PM |
