my old computer seems to have been compromised. every now and then a random program will be downloaded and sometimes it will install. usually i stop it but sometimes ill look later and its on my desktop

then sometimes a slew of popups about porn and webcams will pop up. sometimes they will try to access my webcam and ill deny. one time i was online and noticed my webcam was on even.

if i try to do some antivirus or computer restore it will fail

i go into processes and close out everything foreign but theres always one or 2 strange processes that give me access denied. they start small when i start the computer and take up more and more memory.

occasionally they fill up my ram or cause my computer to overheat.

im done with the computer but still want the information that is on it.

problem how can i get my files (pictures, etcs) off of the computer and be comfortable that the infection won't spread when i move them to my new computer.

Not sure but i probably contracted this whole thing by downloading a blockbuster torrent or streaming sports.

If you're serious, start by disconnecting it from the Internet.
Transferring jpegs and stuff is pretty safe, just make sure you have a proper set of virus/malware protection on the destination PC. Or just use Linux or something at the destination.

be sure to turn off autorun for removable drives on the computer you're moving your filez to (I think a recent Windows Update actually did that for you...) and specifically scan whatever drive you use

[Edited on March 4, 2013 at 11:54 PM. Reason : also install Linux Mint on the old computer, problem solved
