yes..I decided to leave them on so it would go a little quicker (but it actually probably took longer since i had to mask the car from overspray.)
bought some plastic and used it inside the wheels to cover the calipers and discs.

cleaning dipped wheels is easy with a product like "brake dust pro" or "sonax" spray it on ..turns purple and wash off. you can wash dipped stuff with a power washer, its quite durable.
im waiting for some dust to build up to give it a better matte look (fresh dip is slightly satin ..looks better when its a little old..imo)

how long did it take? does removing it damage the wheels? i've been thinking about dipping mine some crazy color for fun, but want to be able to peel them without any damage when i get tired of it.

^my guess is if there was any damage then it was either applied wrong or they thinned it improperly (but a rattle can wouldnt need thinning..so im not sure what happened)
if you buy the dip in the bucket or gallon..you would need to thin it in order to spray it with a HVLP gun. the spray cans are pre-thinned (obviously) but you are the first person I have heard say anything about it damaging clear coat.

these wheels were done with black spray cans (bought at homedepot)..but you can do whole vehicles with gallons and kits purchased from dipyourcar.com

if you have any worries about your paint or any questions about plastidip on cars..dipyourcar.com has a really great forum. I spent several weeks researching PD before my first time using it..its safe for use on clear coats

there are plenty of WAY exotic cars getting dipped all the time..if there were a possibility of damage i would expect the word to get around quite quickly.

go on youtube and search plastidip and car...you will find thousands of videos showing application, removal, dyeing..everything you could possibly need to know.

yeah, i would need to know that it won't damage the finish on my rims before i do it, but i really want them a funky color for the next BMW meet just to have fun

(also its a lease, so i really can't tear up the wheels or i'm screwed)

loi

you mean the video which has 90 thumbs up and 707 thumbs down?...the one where he disabled comments? yeah, thats the one i would trust also

thats a repainted part with a shitty clear coat..if your wheels have a shitty clearcoat than dont use plastidip.

way to make a strong argument..

i did my research and it has led me to believe it is safe..i appreciate you sharing that video and thats the only one out there that claims some soft of damage.
there is another g35 forum a guy took a power washer to get the (too thinly applied) dip off of his car and he accidentally power washed his paint in a couple spots due to user error.

it's not my argument, i was just showing someone saying it takes off clear coat. it would make sense though if they did a crappy repaint it may just be pulling off the clear coat that hadn't cured or bonded well or something

i ordered a can, i'm going to test it on the inside of the wheel to check it then i might to blaze blue for the next BMW meetup for laughs

how many cans did all 4 wheels take? looking online it looks like it takes about 4 coats waiting about 30 minutes between? can they go through a car wash?

Takes about 3-4 cans. They can go through a car wash but I would let it cure for a few days just in case.
I found a follow up to his video where he talks about how he mixed the wrong thinner to thin his dip.

I plasti-dipped quite a few parts on my 4Runner a couple years ago (rear spoiler, windshield wiper arms, etc.) It's holding up really well so far. It has survived the laser wash at Sheetz many times now.

I hit up Auto Bell or Bunkeys pretty often, just want to make sure they wouldn't tear it up

once it cures you really have to pick at it in order to start it peeling..

^^..so you put some on a couple years ago and its still on? thats the longest I have heard so far..

..ordered a gallon of clear (not thinned) to do my car. going to pick up a hvlp gun at lowes..

gotta wait a week or so until the pollen is gone..

also..does anyone have a garage they want to rent out for a day? my parents garage is so tiny that I may not even be able to get around my car in it...or maybe ill try doing it outside (i read that clear is a pain in the ass with overspray..good ventilation helps)

..i dipped my macbook air today..looks awesome

Yeah, it's probably been over two years now for the spoiler. Over a year on the windshield wiper arms and cowl. So far so good.

ok..i i got in all of my items i need and waited for the pollen to go away

this weekend I will be doing my whole car in a clear matte finish...not only does it look amazing but it protect the car from little scratches and road rash.

sprayed the front quarter panel on my 3 as a test and just peeled it the other day..car felt like i clayed it where the dip was pulled off.

im going to post pics of the process..im sure many of you think im crazy for this but i think a couple of you might decide to spray your own cars after seeing it

I've seen it done on a couple of car forums and it looks amazing I think, It's like you get a matte paint job of your color on top...looks great!

Keep me posted on how this works out!
