AoE2 defined my middle/highschool gaming. Haha. So much fun. AoE3 was alright but still didn't compare to 2.

What a great game. We can play this when Simcity's servers are down.

age of empires II (and I) was a lot of fun.

I prefered Empire Earth however for truly epic campaigns.

I loved some AOE. Played all three, but probably spent the most time on II. Really good memories from middle and high school.

my friends and I still play AOE2 when we want some good ole fashion RTS. Hard to find decent modern RTS games that is actually balanced and fun since the genre is dying. I'm hopeful that Planetary Annihilation would fit the bill down the road, but this is good news.

AoE II with the Conquerors expansion pack was my jam in middle school. Saracens ftw!

My computer was too slow to handle AoE III

^ After getting tired of SC2 I've gone back to WC3 ft. Still some good competition on the Northrend server.

Yeah I played EE more as well. It was just so fucking awesome going from the stone age to having nuclear bombers and stealth jets - if you could play that long

^I thought they took down WC3 servers. I was trying to play dota and it wouldn't let me log in.

I thought so as well when I tried to log back in to the Azeroth (US East) server a month or two ago. I tried the Northrend one and it works just fine.

AOE III is awesome in the sense that is automates lots of the micromanaging with farms, fishing, etc. But the soul of the gameplay that made II so great is lost a bit. I still play it occasionally on my 5 year old machine, and it runs fine with the exception of water heavy maps. I'll definitely be getting this and hope we can run some group battles. Dibs on the Britons.

me and my dad used to have epic battles back in the day. He still plays this against the computer! lol. It was always great being in rooms right across from each other and hearing each other yell when the other got the upperhand. I will definitely be getting this and will tell him about it.

However, is it just me, or is there not a lot of difference in the graphics?

Honestly from that video I think the water looks better in the old one. Its way too nice in the new one for how shitty everything else is lol.

That's not out yet and even then, its one of the few RTS games that's soon to be released out of the 100's of FPS, RPG and MMO's out there now. Plus its not really a grand scale RTS game; only get to command a few units and maps are small.

^ This. Although I loved AOEII. I would love making a custom game and making a huge ass city sealed with walls and multiple gates. Shit was a lot fun.

yeah, SupCom2 was a terrible iteration of the series, even the first one failed to be fun. I'll still go back and play some original TA and the community made spring/remade TA is pretty decent, although you can never find players for that game and the maps aren't as large as original TA.

I want a full fledged modern RTS game that does things on grand scales of where you can send 1000 guys flank another 1000 guys while another 1000 are on a different front without the enemy even knowing that huge army is about to flank them. It would be awesome if Total War guys could make just a RTS version of their game instead of the mix of TBS and RTS. While its fun, I think the fun part about RTS's is base building and managing economy with military power.

^^ You should really go get ForgedAlliance and then check out FAForever. The fan community has really made that game even better. SupCom1 had its issues, and much of that was fixed by FA. FAF just seals the deal

i, too, played the hell out of AOE 1 and 2 while in grade school. i will be purchasing this.

i really enjoyed aoe 3, as well. surprised at people saying they didnt like it. it was definitely a lot different.

i got empire earth 2 and only played it a few times. i hated that game.

however, the cornerstone to my rts gaming growing up was warcraft 2. good lord, i loved that game. it was the first rts i ever tried, and when i first played it, i was all, "what is this, it's amazing"

Pretty sweet, I was excited to see it too. This was definitely the subject of several middle/high school lan parties way back....

On a side note, GameFly is selling dirt cheap digital downloads for MedievalII/ShogunII/Empire/Rome Total War games as well.

I know I played the hell out of the original Medieval: Total War back in the day.
