It's almost as if the word history had a different meaning entirely.

^^^^I was expecting a miniseries about the time period and the probably origins of Biblical texts, but instead it's a straightforward showing of parts of the Protestant scriptures.

I don't understand where the problem is. The History Channel has made no assertions that this representation of the Bible is actual fact. It is just a literal interpretation of a book put to the screen.

Because you expect stuff that comes on the "History" channel to be about factual history, you know?

Given the sheer amount of human history driven by this single document, there's a reasonable case to be made for producing a show that visualizes what's said in it. Think sometimes people forget how violent and messy the Old Testament is for example.

i watched that one actually. Only scenes with Lot showed him peacing out from Abraham and then his fleeing Sodom.

and it didn't even mention that Lot tried to pimp out his daughters.

it was just like, oh Lot has some guests and these crazy Sodomites are trying to "get" them, for some reason. And then they fled the city.

Bullet, explain to me then, what history there is in Swamp People. Or Ax Men. Or Ice Road Truckers. The history of alligator hunting? The history of tree felling? The history of driving big ass trucks over lots of ice and icy roads? Yup. The history channel nailed those.

Oh, the History channel jumped the shark way before this.

Still, this show is horseshit. I want to see Yahweh get pissed at Samuel for not slaying the Amalekite king in addition to the women and infants he ordered Samuel to slaughter. (1 Sam 1:15)

Or as mentioned before, Lot offering his daughters to the rapey mob and then Lot's daughters raping him. So much good stuff in the Bible.

This is just more of the same: Christians proclaiming the rich narrative of the Bible and completely ignoring the absolutely horrific shit in both the Old and New Testaments.

If you want to ween someone away from religion, just have them read the holy text(s) of the religion they claim to believe.

The bible is horrific, it's hard to read that book and think that the god in that book is in any way to be admired let alone worshiped.

They used to air actual documentaries. Now you have to watch it around Sunday at about 9 AM to see anything related to history, that isn't just entertainment.

The Bible series has been quite boring so far. It's just another narrative-like depiction of Bible stories that is pretty straightforward. I'm sure someone came up with the idea to produce it just to work it in with a Bible study and line their pockets with cash.

Even though it doesn't cover as much, I'd rather watch the original Ten Commandments movie.

Why does there have to be an H2? Why not just air documentaries on H1.

It would be difficult for them to produce a show like this for the Koran, primarily b/c the star wouldn't be able to make an appearance. If he did, our state department might have to blame another embassy attack on it.

And that's all I have to say about that.

I seem to remember the commercials saying it was "The greatest story ever told" so obviously they are being upfront about it not being fact but just a book full of stories.
