New Netflix series.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2309295/

I will be watching this. Also, that SkarsgÄrd gene pool is fairly stellar, imo.

Actually looks kinda "meh" to me.

But I will be giving it a shot just because of how much I like House of Cards.

Its a show about werewolves.

That being said, its actually a pretty decent show about werewolves. With a couple of other weird things thrown into the mix. The acting is pretty superb.

I watched the first 5 episodes over the weekend. I have to say that this show is weird. However, it's plot development + weirdness + horror + sex + Famke Janssen - FJ's horriblly done british accent + film style are keeping me interested in what's going to happen next.

I'm just glad this isn't some Twilight bullshit. That notion gets thrown out the window in the first scene when a girl basically gets ripped in half from the crotch down by a wolf.

This show has something to it. "You can feel it in your balls."

Not sure why, but critics seem to be panning the show. Much more interesting than anything on the big 3 networks right now.

And the intro sequence is on par with Dexter's intro.

I wouldn't recommend this show based on House of Cards. That one article claimed Netflix is trying to provide content for different subsets of viewers...so there should be no expectation that somebody who loved House of Cards will also like Hemlock Grove.

As a lover of TV in general, I really like it. I wish it came out one ep at a time though so I could talk about it mindlessly with friends each week. By "friends," I mean my one friend who I'm also related to. I have a couple more, but they don't watch TV so there's nothing to talk about. LOL

Also, it baffles me how they still don't cast minorities in stuff.

I think its pretty obvious to any average viewer that this show has zero similarities with House of Cards. I think the reasoning is that people were surprised at how good House of Cards was, so they'll give Netflix the benefit of the doubt in their upcoming series.

^^There was a reference in the show as to why the fisheries and wildlife lady assumed that it was a caucasian male that was at one of the crime scenes. She said "its PA." Also, I don't know much about gypsy culture, but every gypsy I've ever seen in popular media has been a non-minority.

What now, affirmative action for the actor's guild?

Bridget, it's rural PA. Seriously, what do you want here? It's not taking place in SoCal or NYC.

^^^I hear ya. I'm just fascinated by their strategy for creating and promoting new content, and I thought it was worth mentioning again.

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/02/25/business/media/for-house-of-cards-using-big-data-to-guarantee-its-popularity.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0

I'm waiting for them to make a show for Honey Boo Boo/Rules of Engagement fans...and we'll all be like, "Netflix, WTF?!?!"

^^,^AHA Sorry, guys. I'm not mad about it or anything.

^^^^^AHA, I just watched episode 3 where they introduce the investigator. You quoted her talking about Pennsylvania but failed to mention she was the non-white character I was expecting to see.

So how do we talk about these shows when they make the entire season available at once? I've seen 2 episodes (maybe 3, but I think 2). spoiler...................... I've seen up to where Peter (?) turned to a wolf........................../Spoiler

I think it's OK so far. I can certainly see why some critics are knocking it. Some of the line delivery in the first episode made me cringe. But I like the oddness of it so far. I'll watch another episode or two and go from there.

Has anyone finished the entire season yet? Overall, were the first few episodes a good sense of what it's like? Better, worse, pretty even? Thoughts overall vs. what you thought after the first couple of episodes?

I just finished episode 9. There's def. a lot going on in the show, once you get past the whole Peter is a werewolf thing. Something is off about Peter's mom, something is def. going on at the medical institute, and of course there's the crazy other werewolf running around.

That really isn't much of a spoiler, you get most of that from the first couple episodes.

There better be a damn good reason that Famke's character is supposed to have a British accent. Otherwise that's just stupid.

I'm pretty sure there's a reason the accent is bad. I think at some point they mentioned she's from eastern Europe

She met her dead husband in england

but if that's not critical to the story, they should have cut the accent

Overall I enjoyed it. I like the Netflix format of just putting it all out there because I'm not sure that I would have kept up with it week to week.

Shelley is my favorite character...hopefully we'll see more of her next season.

Just finished watching the whole season yesterday. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Has anyone else watched to the very end, past the credits? There's a 10-15 second long clip there; a bit of a teaser for season two. If you were unaware of this you can thank me later

SPOILER QUESTIONSS

1) it seems obvious to me that Olivia will be back
2) How the fuck does Olivia brush off a chest bullet wound but then dies (rather quickly) when Roman rips her tongue out?
3) I don't consider Roman or Olivia vampires...but wtf are they? And what's an Uper?
4) does the teaser at the end mean that Christina is still alive?

END SPOILERS

OH GOD THIS SHOW IS HORRID! It throws you into the mix too quick, there are too many open ended situations, the need to get all supernatural kinds in one show is ridiculous, and then after being abruptly thrown into the plot I then became so lost in what was really going on. The acting is atrocious.

AWFUL. I had such high hopes. I don't think I can bring myself to try to watch more of this shit.

^haha wow. I wanted to watch it but I fell asleep during the first episode (which is normal for me, happens all the time) but Jon kept watching it and now he's a few episodes in and he's saying the same things as you. I'm glad I didn't waste anymore time on it.

some of the worst acting i've seen of all time, porns included. i have no idea how this got picked up for a second season unless netflix is only paying some small portion and the roth family is bankrolling it all themselves so why the fuck not...
