Horace Albert "Bones" McKinney played at NC State for two years but stopped due to having to serve in World War II, then played one year at North Carolina after returning. He would later become the head coach at Wake Forest, where he won two ACC titles, and would take the Demon Deacons to their only Final Four in 1962.
What former CBS announcer played on that Final Four team?
UCLA owns the record for most consecutive Final Four appearances with 10 straight from 1967 to 1976. What two schools are tied for second, and what years did they accomplish this feat? 3/30/2013 12:46:55 AM |

This coach is notable for having been the first to play a lineup of 5 black players which he did in 1961. He played 4 black players when he won the national championship. During that championsip run his team beat Tennessee Tech 111-42 which still remains the largest margin of victory in NCAA Tournament history. This championship team is also the only one from the state of Illinois.
I hope I gave enough hints. 3/30/2013 3:33:12 PM |

Loyola is the correct team and they were coached by George Ireland. In 1963 they defeated two time national champion Cincinnati in overtime 60-58 on a last second tip-in by Vic Rouse. Had Cincinnati won they would have been the first school to have won three straight titles.
What school was the first to win back-to-back national championships?
As for the earlier question of which coaches won national titles in their first year coaching their teams, Ed Jucker first did it at Cincinnati in 1961, Steve Fisher did it at Michigan in 1989, and Tubby Smith did it at Kentucky in 1998. Fisher was promoted to interim coach after head coach, and UM alumnus, Bill Frieder took the Arizona State job during the last week of the regular season. AD Bo Schembechler told him to leave immediately and promptly promoted Fisher. 3/30/2013 5:57:27 PM |
