Cat should probably take the advice of that shitty/terrible band cheer and learn to dribble.

He improved quite a bit at end of the year. Biggest jump is between freshman and sophomore year as I say over and over. Expecting big things...

Cat will be a good player. Cut the 18 year old kid a fucking break. Some people on this board will always be miserable pieces of shit.

what are the chances he's going to shave his head during the offseason, making all of us think, "oh shit, he's taking his sophomore season seriously. look the hell out"?

(I'd totally think that, btw)

Quote :
"Cat Barber, NC State: There's quick guards in the open floor and then there's Barber. The 6-2 point guard is like a cheetah when he's on the break and he'll be one of the better transition players in the ACC next season as a sophomore. Last season Barber averaged 8.5 points and 3.5 assists in 24.2 minutes but really came on late. Pencil in Barber for 15 and 7 as a sophomore."

^I really like reading this article. After the way we finished this season (NOT the end of the St. Louis game, but the end of season push and conference tournament) a lot of people started noticing what our team was doing. We were young and unpolished and starting to work out the real kinks we had - and it should be noted that TJ Warren started going absolutely nuts offensively (unguardable would be an appropriate term)....

Which brings me to my point: many bball analysts agree that the biggest step players tend to take are between freshman and sophomore seasons. Our team is without our previous best player, but also without Cat's main competition and distraction (vying for playing time, alternating between PG and SG, etc). I think with Cat as our locked in starting PG, and possibly playing the role of major offensive weapon, he is primed to get a legit shot at leading this team. He got punched A LOT last year, and I believe those moments will make him a much more solid player this year (turnovers, not being able to "run" the TJ offense like tyler the distributor). We had two players fighting for a spot that played completely opposite styles and with TJ leaving that lends Cat a huge benefit to play towards his strengths now. I am very optimistic that his ceiling is much higher than we realize, we will now get a chance to see him play his style, and possibly build the offense around it. We know he can defend, we know he is the fastest guy on the court, and with Lacy/Turner/Freeman/Anya around him could really shine. Turner and Lacy should keep zones honest and Cat should eat in man to man to defensive sets. If we were going to lose an AA to transfer again, I have to say that I am very happy that Cat is moving forward with our Wolfpack.

That was my first thought as well.

However, I've illustrated another possibility.

getting rid of lewis will be huge for our team next year. guy just couldnt play. having a PG who just gets murdered in transition defense, never getting loose balls, etc is just killer.

Having one guy on your team who isn't ACC caliber is a much, much bigger leak than most people realize. Especially at PG.

Cat sucked for most of last season during ACC play, but Lewis was a silent killer out there. Neither were a good option but at least Cat flashed potential.

I think he'll be solid this year. But the team will still be terrible.

thats a nice post and all but the stick bundle finder was one of the worst transition defenders I've probably ever seen play basketball. you don't just magically get rid of that after one offseason

The worst you've ever seen in basketball? I assume you've watched a lot of basketball, so that must be just terrible.
I thought he was a good on-the-ball defender but he would just get lost sometimes, which is expected of a freshman.

when you watch truly terrible basketball (like all whitey middle schools) the team on transition doesnt typically have much of an idea what theyre doing either so the difference in ability isnt as drastic

i dont watch a ton of garbage adult basketball like whoever ryan harrow is playing at georgia state or d3 or whatever

perhaps a bit hyperbolic but really not by all that much. i would consider "lost" an understatement of cat's transition d. as good as he is 1 on 1 in the half court he is much worse in transition

Sometimes? He got lost a ton. I think everyone can agree that was his worst fault last year.

Probably the #1 reason TL played over him.

He was often complimented on his half-court defense, by Gott, by announcers, etc.

He's a phenomenal one-on-one defender. He's quick enough to be able to move his feet and stay in front of most opposing players. Do some of you not remember him drawing a crucial foul against Tyler Ennis for example? Even though the team shut the bed.

no.

lewis would actually get back and be in the right place at the right time.

cat would not stop the ball, or if someone else had the ballhandler, would leave his guy open for WIDE OPEN THREES.

this happened basically every game.

^i don't think that's really how it went down. iirc, we were in it with him for a while, and i'm pretty sure a lot of elite teams would have taken him.

he's solid, doesn't make many mistakes, and can bring the ball up under pressure. and he was 8-10 from the line last night. he was a little sloppy early in the game, as was the rest of the team. he gets a little lost running the offense sometimes, but i'm hoping that will improve as the season goes on. I can't believe a pack fan would be disappointed with him, he's the best we've had since....

good point about lo, but he's a more natural shooting guard imo, and would have probably prospered there more if we had a reliable point to run with him. like cat.

you really want a list?

nigel williams goss
the good harrison twin
bryce alford (sucks gott's son isnt this good)
josh newkirk (who we passed on for cat)
monte morris
rozier

theres probably another 20 guys where it wouldnt make much of a difference if we swapped them and cat because lacey would handle the ball most of the time
