The problem is that police have almost total control (doesn't matter if it's active or inactive investigations or whatever), and the way the law is written, even judges have limited leeway in when they can override.

The law has no accountability built in for if cops try to hide video or engage in any levels of coverup. The law even empowers them to cover up evidence and further entrenches their ability to abuse power. The law doesn't establish any standards in how long it should take for police to provide video, and it doesn't allow a person to share a video they were in.

It's the opposite direction we need to go. We need more accountability, not less.

Thanks, Pat. We didnt need that game and the corresponding impact to Charlotte and NC revenue anyways. Im more worried that my little girl, whom I let go in the bathroom by herself because I have no parental responsibility, will be accosted and maybe raped by a man dressed as a woman hiding in the stall.

As long as everyone agrees the NBA was motivated by politics and not actual concern about its BLTAQG fanbase, the conversation may continue.

citizens united -company wanted to air a political film close to an election. the FEC said this was electioneering communication and would violate campaign finance laws since it was coming from a corporation. supreme court said it was okay

nba - moves a game because they disagree with the bigoted HB2 either because of their beliefs or perhaps because they were worried about advertiser boycotts or some other motivation

do i need to explain further to show that these are not the same thing or is this summary sufficient?

to anyone who disagrees with this turn of events, what alternative to the NBA making their own decision on how to run their business do you suggest as appropriate?

^ Consistently apply their sanctions to any jurisdiction wherein they have a team with similar laws to NC.

"If you don't consistently apply (insert issue here) to all aspects of your life and/or business in a manner I deem sufficient, then you're nothing but a hypocrite with worthless positions that aren't worth considering."

Nothing I stated suggesting forcing them to do anything. You asked what alternative would seem appropriate for those who oppose this measure and I responded that consistently applying this new sanction would seem to be an appropriate place to start.

OK, there are a ton of companies out there, perhaps all of them, that can be categorized as being hypocrites in some way or another.

The bottom line is this is a company in some likelihood making every decision they have including not only whether to pull an event in Charlotte but also to host in other states with similar laws based on their bottom dollar.

Are you complaining that a company should not be allowed to do this or are you simply complaining that you don't like this particular company, but you absolutely support their right to take the actions they've taken?

and my original question was not pointed directly at you only was it? It's a totally viable question, if you support free trade and the invisible hand, and you're complaining about the NBA leaving, are you simply saying you don't like the company but support their right to decide for themselves, or are you saying you think they shouldn't have that right to decide what's best for them? I'm just asking for specification

for the record i support the right of the nba to pull game but think that if someone who doesnt want corporations to have any political influence agreed that could be hypocritical

yes, if someone made a blanket statement that they never want any corporation to have any political influence through any action of their own and then they applaud this move that would be hypocritical

Has anyone made such a statement?

What people whining about "political decisions" fail to understand is that calling a special session and passing HB2 in just hours was a political decision to begin with. It was "pure political BS." It was clearly meant to get the christo fascist legions to the polls in November, since that entire wing of the GOP seems only to be motivated by punishing gheys or controlling women's wombs. You can claim HB2 is meant to protect women and children or whatever dumbfuck argument Dan Forest is doubling down on right now, but most of us have seen this all before and know why this shit was passed. Now you're gonna whine like little bitches because your leaders miscalculated how it would galvanize people. I gotta tell ya, most of us don't give two shits about where a transgender person pees, but we are so god damn tired of the GOP fellating the Christian Right that we are ready to curb stomp your entire god damn party (lord willing).

So you agree that HB2 is pure political bullshit with no regard to actually solving a problem. Good.

If HB2 was actually attempting to solve a problem then you are suggesting that the NBA should not be concerned about the treatment of their fans who spend money on games, apparel, and access. If the NBA deems it necessary to protect their interests across the US (those states that think NC is backwards) by opposing HB2 then they have the right to do so.

^^^ First quote was an attempt at sarcasm. Second quote was in reference to the frustration of having a convo in TSB where we should be able to avoid the pitfalls of chit chat. Not every comment is replete with inuendo.

I don't care what the NBA does, but was pointing out, as others have, that they obviously don't consistently apply this new anti-discrimination policy. Sure, call it hypocrisy if you want, and point out everyone else does it too, ok. But being less hypocritical would be one way to quiet critics of this move.

The NBA will be dealt with once Mr. Trump assumes power in January 2017. All hypocrites will be dealt with.
