Madison Cawthorn is just a normal responsible adult

Quote :
"HELBY, N.C. — U.S. Rep. Madison Cawthorn of North Carolina is facing a charge of driving with a revoked license.

The Republican congressman was stopped by a N.C. Highway Patrol trooper Thursday in Cleveland County for driving outside of the designated lane on U.S. 74, highway patrol officials said.

“Our office expects the traffic matters to be resolved quickly and we remain focused on serving the constituents of NC-11,” Luke Ball, a Cawthorn spokesman, said in a statement to WRAL News.

Cawthorn, 26, from Hendersonville, was cited in October for traveling 89 mph in a 65 mph zone in Buncombe County and cited again for speeding in Polk County on Jan. 8, state highway patrol said.

Each time Cawthorn was stopped, officials indicated that he was driving a different vehicle.

It's unclear when Cawthorn's driver's license was revoked and why. The N.C. Department of Transportation didn’t immediately provide a response.

Cawthorn’s next court date is on May 6 in Shelby."

Quote :
""Remember that Zelenskyy is a thug," Cawthorn said in a video obtained by WRAL. "Remember that the Ukrainian government is incredibly corrupt and is incredibly evil and has been pushing woke ideologies.""

Lt. Governor Mark Robinson paid to have the mother of his unborn child (who I assume wasn't his wife) have an abortion in 1989.

"Rep. Madison Cawthorn, the 26-year-old House freshman from North Carolina, appeared on a podcast interview last week and said that since he came to D.C. in 2020, he’s seen anti-addiction policymakers do cocaine in front of him and been witness to the“sexual perversion that goes on in Washington.”

“I look at all these people, a lot of them that I’ve looked up to through my life, I've always paid attention to politics," Cawthorn said. “Then all of a sudden you get invited to, ‘Well, hey, we’re going to have kind of a sexual get-together at one of our homes, you should come. And then you realize they are asking you to come to an orgy.”"

I would have assumed the people he looked up to are Republican bigots. So what is this, some kind of self-own?

In light of the recently released dashcam footage of Representative Cawthorn’s traffic stop, I’ve decided I’m going to dive in. I’m going to vote in the NC GOP primary. Last GOP primary I voted in was when Ron Paul ran in 2008.

This could give me a chance to vote against Cawthorn 3 times. The primary, a possible primary runoff, and the general. A primary runoff is triggered if no one reaches 30%.

The other major candidate, Chuck Edwards, is a NC Senate ghoul. Also one of the McDonald’s he owns down in Hendersonville gave me diarrhea. Still a better option than Cawthorn.

I’ll probably vote for Wendy Nevaraz first go round:

The knives are out for this guy. It’s the NCGOP clearing the way for Chuck Edwards. I think Cawthorn jumping into the new NC13 district that was designed for the NC House speaker really burnt the NCGOP old guard. We are three weeks out from primary day, so I wonder if more is yet to drop?

“Not one time in my life when I faced adversity did I say, ‘You know, I shall overcome,’” Robinson said. “My God tells me that when I face adversity that, number one, I am to stand up like a man! M-A-N!”

“We are called to be led by men,” he said, which brought applause and some shouts of agreement. “God sent women out … when they had to do their thing, but when it was time to face down Goliath, [He] sent David. Not Davita, David.
....
“Not Momma Moses,” he said. “Daddy Moses.”
....
Robinson went on to say that God “knew what he was doing when he made men big and hairy and ugly.”

“It’s because you’re supposed to scare away predators, whether they’re in the woods or standing in front of your kids in elementary school,” he said

Anyone who reads to a child about transgenderism or homosexuality, is “doing it to twist that child’s mind” and is “just as much of a groomer as that person was down at that playground,” he said during a March sermon at Prospect Baptist Church in Albemarle.

“If you’d like to find out some fascinating stories about Mark Robinson, the crazy guy who screamed at the city council and became lieutenant governor, go on Amazon to buy the book,” Robinson told the congregation."

North Carolina is trying to:

-finally expand Medicaid after a decade of lost federal healthcare money
-pass a budget in a divided government by July 1st
-debating medical cannabis
-waiving property taxes for disabled veterans
-updating arson laws, including requiring background checks for volunteer fire fighters

The NCGOP candidate for governor:
“We nEed tO pUT wImmiNs bACK iN tHeiR pLAce!1!1!1”

It’s just fundamentally unserious, off-topic, and an exceedingly stupid idea. It’s so dumb that I’d outright dismiss it if it wasn’t for the army of evangelicals chomping at the bit to establish sharia law in this state. Once you consider that, it’s terrifying.

Still don’t get how that looney toon won. I mean…I realize most people just saw an R by his name and voted for him.

I guess what I don’t get is how he and Cooper both won on the ballot. Was Forest just *that* unpopular?

He's so conservative, I don't believe he's genuine.

I almost feel like he says these things because he thinks that's what his audience wants to hear, and he's in it just for the election. But in my mind, he's a caricature of what a conservative is, or should be.

so what does it say that you think he says these things only to get elected, and then gets elected?

do you think that he’s a unique case or that a majority of the GOP agrees with him?

I know he’s just Lt Gov and not a congressman, but it’s hilarious how the GOP will come out against Cawthorn only once he starts talking about orgies and illegal drugs. But they’ll remain silent on basically every other dingbat wacko in their ranks.

So the Senate passed Medicaid expansion and is strongly considering a bill called the “Medical debt de-weaponization bill:”
https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2022/06/21/1106307307/north-carolina-considers-new-laws-to-de-weaponize-medical-debt-and-protect-patie
Quote :
"
It features a host of provisions championed by consumer advocates, including the following:

Require hospitals to provide free care to patients whose household income is at or below 200% of

Require hospitals to offer patients payment plans that span at least two years, with installments that don't exceed 5% of their monthly income

Cap the annual out-of-pocket expense for most patients at $2,300

Cap the maximum interest rate on medical debt at 5%

Shield family members from medical or nursing home debt incurred by a spouse or parent

Delay reporting of unpaid medical debts to credit bureaus until one year after a patient is billed

Prohibit home foreclosures related to medical debt

Require the attorney general to enforce the law and giving patients the ability to sue health care facilities for violations"

Not exactly a bill full of silver bullets, but it’s not nothing (which is what the NCleg has given us for the last decade). It could all die in the House, but it just seems like an indicator of a NC GOP shift on some of these issues.

Couple that with some of the rumblings suggesting internal NC GOP machinations are trying to reign Mark Robinson in:
https://amp.charlotteobserver.com/opinion/article262529742.html

And I’m asking myself is this just an aberration or are some in the NC GOP looking to position themselves somewhere besides MAGAland???
