I just sold my 2 year old Apple TV for $200 on ebay just based on the fact that it can be jailbroken while the most recent iteration (3rd generation) cannot be.
What other products are there out there that are actually worth much more now than their retail price? Are certain video cards still used to mine bitcoins like that?
I actually sold it not based on the profit itself but because the Roku 3 is better in every imaginable way and I just happened to see on ebay that I could double my investment and afford one without worrying whether the Apple was a waste 4/4/2013 5:52:53 PM |

i picked up the pogoplug v2 (gigabit and 4 USB ports) for $15 new and threw on archlinux
darn good deal at $15, though i think it would take finding the right person to get more than double that 4/5/2013 9:06:30 AM |

^^ after having it for a week I can say uh...yes.
for watching netflix, for watching files on a system share, for watching files off a usb drive...oh wait, that's everything I used the apple tv for and 2/3rd of those didn't work at all. 4/9/2013 7:03:36 PM |

You should try out a real media streamer and get back to me. 4/9/2013 11:05:06 PM |

I really like the Roku 3. Had an earlier model one that we liked but the new one is very snappy, I like the interface, and global search is nifty. I don't think it has much to do with being a "real" media streamer as much as personal preferences on how you're going to use it. For streaming media over the internet, the Roku 3 is a perfect option and Apple TV doesn't really have anything big to hold over its head in that regard. At least imo. 4/10/2013 2:59:15 PM |
