Quote : | "Bill filed to allow lobbyists' gifts again
A veteran Republican state House lawmaker has filed a proposal to allow lobbyists to once again give unreported gifts to state lawmakers in North Carolina." |
Really?
Quote : | "The measure would repeal bans on gifts from lobbyists to lawmakers, and relax requirements that lobbyists disclose such gifts." |
This feels like the wrong direction. Too much control by wealthy interests through campaign spending and lobbying spending seems to be a common thread in many of the problems in our political system.
If anything we should toughen restrictions, increase the frequency of reporting requirements, and require reports to be filed electronically so that they are typed up, legible, and more easily accessible to the public.4/10/2013 12:03:08 AM |

I feel like it's borderline irresponsible for WRAL to report it that way. They did literally no explanation of what the other scandal was, or explained how this would affect lobbying.
The "typical" person reading that article doesn't come away with how slimy of a thing that is to do. 4/10/2013 12:08:15 AM |

the democrats benefitted for decades with lobbyist gifts... the republicans just want to hop on the same gravy train precedent the democrats set. 4/10/2013 8:15:51 AM |

Given how transparent the legislature has been about their agenda with other bills, why not just make one making bribery legal? 4/10/2013 10:12:01 AM |

^^^ yea the way it has been going they might almost make one Republican Agenda Bill that can be the catch-all bill with a copy/paste of the national republican agenda... it would cut down on the thinking the NCGA would have to do... you know with all those different bills. 4/10/2013 4:36:18 PM |
