nothing spectacular so far. Thomas had Payton for a 60 yd TD that went off his hands. Milton hall fumbled...extremely fast paced offense.
Niklas Sade just kicked a 33 yarder for a 3-0 Red Team lead.

there was one INT (that I remember...) Shadrach fumbled ~4.. D coach was all over him for it too, as he should be... I was wondering how Creecy got 1st string on the depth chart a week ago, but he looked much better than Shadrach today 4/20/2013 5:10:32 PM |

Stocker was okay, Pete Thomas looked better than Stocker but the timing between him at the receivers was off. Brissett played very well but didn't take many snaps, and showed good speed on a read option run at one point.

Thomas looked clearly better than Stocker and Brissett better than either. Its hard to tell what a qb-run and read-option heavy offense looks like in a scrimmage where QBs are down when they are touched.
Clearly we will rely on runs and misdirection to stretch the width of the field and pull the defense up, so we can take some one on one shots downfield. 4/20/2013 7:17:00 PM |

Here's a Go Pack video with a few highlights. Not much to see here, but it's better than nothing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JCqZtC54riQ
-Pete Thomas looked like a better QB than Stocker. He was great with the short/med throws. Long balls might have been affected by the wind.
-Brissett plays like a taller RW ... An athletic QB who looks to throw first; great at buying time, great touch on the ball.
-Tons of sweeps, quick passes to Underwood, Smith, and Milton Hall. Those guys should get plenty of touches (even Hall)
-Our DL (and particular DTs) are going to single-handedly keep us in a lot of games. Teal and McGill might be the best combo in the ACC.

Spoke to a coach at UGA whose daughter i know really well and he said that Jacoby was the best player we have had since Rivers.
He compared him to Cam Newton.
Said in DD's system he will thrive if the Linemen get conditioned to playing at that pace. 4/21/2013 8:49:13 PM |

And also, the ones who paid attention knew Art Norman was a veritable monster in the making. Weird to say, but I think we'll have the best d line in the ACC, but our offense will likely suck nard. 4/21/2013 10:12:42 PM |

milton had a few carries in last year's spring game. i think he was on for a couple plays during the season but i'm not certain. he looked alright saturday after a little warming up, but i'm afraid he might be a little undersized

I think the offense will be decent. Not great, but decent.
You gotta remember its a new offense, a gimmick offense in a way that is tough to prepare for.
Most ACC teams have never seen this type of spread system.
If we can get Thomas to be smart with the ball and his health we should be ok. We have some quality WRs and kids coming in.
Just gotta keep the ball off the ground.
The real issue will be our Oline conditioning running this fast paced offense. It will wear down opponents pretty quickly that arent used to it. 4/21/2013 10:27:15 PM |

Listening to Tony and Johnny during the spring game broadcast, it sounded a lot like what UNC was going through last year trying to install an up tempo offense. We don't have a Gio Bernard so it'll be interesting to see how well we do next year with our current roster running an offense they were not recruited to run. 4/22/2013 10:14:52 AM |

Brand new coaching staff, brand new QB, brand new offense, a few weeks of practice... it's the Spring Game.
Has anyone gone to a Spring Game and come out thinking "Man, our offense is going to be AWESOME!"? 4/22/2013 10:19:11 AM |
titans78 All American 4038 Posts user info edit post |
Went to the game and sat right behind players which in and of itself was pretty cool to be in the expensive side of the stadium.
With that said, few things I took from it :
New staff was very energetic and kids looked to be having a good time and playing hard. I thought there was a lot of energy despite the game being pretty uneventful. Just felt like if I was a recruit I'd come out of it thinking it would be a fun atmosphere to play in.
I thought that the offense was hindered greatly by the plays being blown dead on a QB touch. Hard to have an offense where your QB is suppose to carry the ball and make guys miss and plays are being blown dead when he is touched. Also same goes for scrambling and making some plays in the passing game that way, so I think it was a factor in the offense to some degree not looking great as a few of those plays could have sprung for more yards.
Defense looked good at times. Pretty athletic, seemed to cover well, not sure if it is bad offensive talent or good defense but they were not many miscues in the secondary and they were getting pressure while still holding gaps for the most part. So maybe defense will be a bit better than expected.
MVP of the game was the punter. At least no 7 yard punts this year. 4/22/2013 10:42:16 AM |

So is he part of the TT contingent that think RW is a Wisconsin player?
And the offense has been around before. Wake used to run a lot of the same plays, although I guess it's been a few years since then and there's been a lot of turnover in the conference.4/22/2013 10:44:38 AM |
