I backed a computer game called Energy Hook on Kickstarter, and I hope you will, too.Energy Hook is a swinging and grappling game being developed by Jamie Fristrom, the man who brought us the utterly amazing and never duplicated webslinging mechanics of Spider-Man 2. If you've never played Spider-Man 2, go find a used copy of the Xbox or PS2 version today.Fristrom is combining that swinging and grappling gameplay with challenges inspired by Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, another series he's worked on. If you've played Spider-Man 2 and THPS before, I don't have to tell you how goddamn exciting that is.The art and animation basically suck, but the core traversal gameplay looks like it's already there. The second stretch goal has been met, so we should get Linux support and a zipping mechanic. Neat!

So this is probably going to be the best bet for something like "Mirror's Edge" that adds genuine non-linear gameplay to an interesting world? If they can get that sensation of speed and notable visuals, I'd buy it in a secondhope they don't anchor it too heavily to a story though.[Edited on May 15, 2013 at 12:02 PM. Spider-man 2 was awesome. Web of Shadows was also awesome.

in terms of swinging/grappling games, how does it measure up to Bionic Commando?
5/17/2013 8:53:01 AM
It's not out yet, so I haven't had a chance to play it. But I guess you're asking about the Bionic Commando remake from a few years ago, right? I never played it, but gameplay videos of Bionic Commando make the swinging look slower and more floaty than Spider-Man 2.[Edited on May 17, 2013 at 8:57 AM. Reason : ...]

nah, I was being facetious and referring to the original NES version.

Fristrom's hit the $30,000 goal for original music and audio. I don't really care about the next goal, which is a first-person camera and Oculus Rift support, but I would love to see the additional mechanics at the higher goals.
