19-3 (6-2) #14 in RPI. Next three are relatively easy games with Wake, @VT, @Clemson.

Silly question probably, but if a man is a really good women's basketball coach, why wouldn't he try to get a job coaching men and make more money?

i watched the game on espn3 earlier and he made a switch from the 2-3 to a box and 1 to stop their best player and it basically shut maryland down. they had no idea what to do and we went from down 7 to up 9. great move, basically one switch decided the game.

I'm kind of amazed teams don't try a box and one on tj warren. We would be fucked.

^^^ wasn't able to watch it but did listen to a little on the radio while driving. During the pre-game, he was talking about what he was planning to do on defense and said they probably wouldn't make any big defensive switches until after halftime so Maryland wouldn't have much time to talk about how they could attack it. Not sure if that's when he made the switch or not but liked hearing him talk strategy.

Bullet To me, it could be a case of the male coach not caring about the increase in money they'd get from switching to coaching men or caring more about wanting to help more women succeed in college and life through basketball. I know it's a big drive in gymnastics to be good enough to get a college scholarship because they're full scholarships.

I do know we didn't switch defenses until the 2nd half, but I'm not sure if we started out in the box and 1 or waited just a bit and that's when we went on the 13-0 run. The other big thing in the 2nd half was Maryland going 0-14 from 3.

we waited a bit from what i could see. and some of those missed 3's were open, but they were so out of rhythm that i think it really got into their heads. they NEEDED to feed the ball through thomas.

i just heard on WKNC that we've already matched our wins from last season

We went 17-17 last year, we're 17-3 now (12-0 at home).

We have the talent to be dangerous against Top 10 competition, but the difference between 1-5 and 6-10 can be big. Heck even 1-2 and 2-3 can be a gap. UCONN and Notre Dame killed Duke with Duke being only 1 ranking lower. Of course Duke has lost their best PG, so it's hurt them. I think we can realistically make the Sweet 16.

"March 4, 2014

RALEIGH, N.C. – After leading the No. 14 NC State women’s basketball team (24-6) to an incredible regular season during his first year at the helm of the program, Wes Moore was named ESPNW’s Atlantic Coast Conference Coach of the Year on Tuesday afternoon.

During the 2013-14 season, Moore’s accomplishments with the Wolfpack include but are not limited to:

Nine straight weeks in the AP and USA Today top-25 polls.
First AP top-10 ranking since 2001.
24 wins.
A 21-3 start to the season, the program’s best such beginning since 1981-82.
10 wins over top-100 RPI teams.
14 wins in 16 home games.
A double bye in the upcoming ACC Tournament.
Two All-ACC selections.

NC State has earned a double bye at the 2014 ACC Tournament and will open play in the quarterfinal round at 11 a.m. on March 7. The Wolfpack will play either Virginia Tech, Clemson, or Syracuse in this game. A live broadcast will be available on ESPN3.

I don't really keep up with our women's team too well, but I'm pretty sure we had 5 or 6 seniors last year, including 1 each in the 1st and 3rd rounds of the WNBA draft. I'd imagine that has had an effect on this season.

Yep, lost 6 seniors last year and knew this year would be on the rough side. Krystal Barrett, 1 of our 2 seniors, got a season ending leg injury vs Davidson back in December and our McDonald's All-American Honorable Mention freshman broke her foot in the 4th game of the season and probably won't be back this season. Also, our 6-5 freshman from Bosnia hasn't been cleared by the NCAA and will likely redshirt. Of course they have to produce, but the recruiting class for next year is strong.

Recruiting rankings:
Blue Star Report – No. 6
ESPN HoopGurlz – No. 16
Prospects Nation – No. 24

I'm certainly not one of the morons who claims Kentucky can beat the 76ers or whatever, but I think our womens team could probably beat our mens team. I mean, this clown ass coach is obviously better than Mark Gottfrie (notice how I left out the D because he leaves the D out of his coaching). And if the Lady Pack just full court pressed like WVU and then played zone defense in the half court which we all know Gott is perplexed by because he's too busy cancelling free throw drills, we'd be in trouble. That would result in Kyle Washington shooting 18 threes per game with 34 seconds left on the shot clock, followed by Anya flexing technicals and other cancerous shenanigans. Meanwhile as The E Man so accurately notes, female bball players have better fundamentals, so I think Wes > Gott all day.

Making 5 shots in the 2nd half isn't going to win a ballgame. Doesn't make our lose any better, but VT beat Pitt today.

She is already sitting out a year from transferring from Fresno State to Oregon, but Moore needs to get her to transfer to State for her 6th year senior season, if that's even allowed by the NCAA
