Hopefully it returns over those other sports on the list. Cutting it from the games was stupid in the first place. Sports that should always be at the Olympics are Wrestling, Boxing, Track & Field, Swimming, Diving, Soccer, Basketball, Rugby, volleyball, tennis, and baseball/softball. After that they can fill in the schedule with some other sports like field hockey and water polo. If something has to be cut then ditch walking and ping pong.

But seriously, it's ridiculous that it even had to get "shortlisted"

^^Baseball is pretty popular in Asia and other parts of the Americas. Also, diving is one of those traditional Olympic sports that belongs just like track and field. If something needs to go then it is walking, beach volleyball, and any extreme sports.

Nah. Track & Field is quantifiable competition. Diving isn't. I'm for chucking all of the sports that are 100% subjective.

Rugby 7s is just as useless as beach volleyball, so why bother changing?

Just like no one cares about the Olympic soccer tournament, no one will care about an Olympic golf tournament. Don't take a quadrennial spotlight from table tennis players to highlight golfers who have four majors per year.

^I agree that most of the sports have bigger events than the Olympics, but I would still rather see wrestling, boxing, basketball, soccer, tennis, golf, and rugby 7s at the Olympics instead of beach volleyball and trampoline. And no matter how much you dislike them, gymnastics and all of the water sports have to remain a part of the Olympics. That is their biggest stage.

^That probably wouldn't change the tv ratings that much since swimming and track & field always seem to draw the most interest.

I play rugby. Sevens is perfectly fine in the Olympics. And it's gotten interest and money in rugby domestically we otherwise wouldn't have gotten.

^^Yeah, I enjoy watching 15s and 7s. It's way more entertaining than most of the competitions at the Olympics.

^I'm guessing yes since it is popular in Europe.

^Good idea. Maybe they could add beach soccer too. The USA was undefeated in that tournament they used to show on ESPN back in the 90s, except for when they played Brazil.

20 college teams are playing in a tournament in Philadelphia this coming weekend, including N.C. State, and it will be televised on NBC and NBC Sports. Last year it got attendance of 10000+ each day. http://www.usasevenscrc.com/

The round of the IRB 7s Series played in Las Vegas every February gets huge attendance.

Wrestling should be able to make this final cut over baseball. I like seeing both sports in the Olympics, but if it has to be between them two and squash, then I am pulling for wrestling to remain in the Olympics.

^Same here. I don't see why they wanted to ditch wrestling in the first place. It was one of the better sports to watch.

Clearly there is room for 40 different swimming medals, but not wrestling or baseball.

Maybe they should just ditch all combat sports and add MMA. That would open up about 3, or 4 spots.

modern pentath should def be the first to go as most in the sports media have said, I'd also put wrestling above road cycling for sure

does trampoline need to be its own event? maybe combine it with gymnastics?

and cycling bmx I don't know about it, skateboarding is more popular but I see they are trying to fill out their bicycle events but there is the x games

They should add pro wrestling.

Medals for best promo, workrate, high flyer, etc.

I've been on a YouTube wrestling video kick since I read this. Here's one of the better ones. Watch for a brief clip of Darrion Caldwell.
